Somali hijackers attack an American ship

The U.S.-flagged cargo ship Maersk Alabama is heading to port in Mombasa, Kenya, a day after it was hijacked off Somalia's coast, the father of one of the crew members said Thursday.
Capt. Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama is being held by pirates on a lifeboat off Somalia.

An 18-man armed security detail is on board to make sure the vessel and the 20 crew members get there safely, Capt. Joe Murphy said. It is about a 50-hour journey.

FBI negotiators are trying to secure the release of the Maersk Alabama's captain, who is still being held by the Somali hijackers in a lifeboat.

I don't get it....the pirates have the captain hostage in a lifeboat with no gas......what's there to negotiate?????

Im wondering if Obama will even give Special Operations forces permission to act on this. I think he would rather find a peaceful resolution against a bunch of pirates who have already went back on their word during the hostage trade and kept the captain. I just do not see the point in being humane about this and continuing this captains suffering when we could end this thing in minutes.

I'd blow that life boat, with all on board (captain included), to fucking hell.

That action alone would save lives in the future. NO fucking mercy.

Fucking people are fucking stupid for sailing through those waters unarmed.

My sympathy is with the captains family.........but not with him. STUPID.

My solution: Loosely surround the lifeboat, then have divers drill some holes in the lifeboat's hull...wait a few minutes, then announce over the loudspeaker, "We see your boat is sinking. Throw your weapons overboard and we will come to your aid!"

Was thinking something of the same but make it sink faster, but have a diver wating to grab the CPT while sinking, then shoot the rats as they jump ship

1:30 PM Eastern Cpt Harris jumps overboard from lifeboat again. Three of the four maritime community organizers were killed , one wounded in a brief firefight with Navy SEALs. Harris is on board the USS Bainbridge. The wounded organizer is in custody

I guess the lesson is that four heavily armed Somalis can keep an unarmed American hostage, but with one gone to go negotiating its only a matter of time until the hostage will escape and Navy SEALS will shoot the rest!
