Experts Warn of Possible 'Terminator' Type Scenario

Post by Flesh Thorn »

Autonomous military robots that will fight future wars must be programmed to live by a strict warrior code, or the world risks untold atrocities at their steely hands.

The stark warning — which includes discussion of a "Terminator"-style scenario in which robots turn on their human masters — is part of a hefty report funded by and prepared for the U.S. Navy's high-tech and secretive Office of Naval Research.

The report, the first serious work of its kind on military robot ethics, envisages a fast-approaching era where robots are smart enough to make battlefield decisions that are at present the preserve of humans.

Eventually, it notes, robots could come to display significant cognitive advantages over Homo sapiens soldiers.

Bring them motherfuckers to East Texas and turn them loose in our woods. Fire ants would short out their circuitry in 15 minutes.

Stories like this are created by those who need to justify their government jobs in the name of fantasy. Much of these conclusions are based off the fact that a computer can think for itself.(I.E. power-save, detect viruses, read programs, voice recognition, blah, blah, blah) Take these progresses, add a mathmatically progressive multiplier and BAAAAM, you got yourself a I-Robot. I don't see it and hate wasting my tax money on such studies.

I do believe in OTEBs (Other Than Earth Beings) though. Just sayin.

I can save them some time

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I never saw the movie but I did read the entire Foundation series, the prequels and the follow ons. I don’t ever remember a robot killing a person in the books.

That’s probably why I didn’t watch it, a sorry plot trying to cash in on big name recognition.

A good axe, chainsaw, machete, and shotgun, and you'll be prepared for all the future has to offer, be it zombies, aliens, robots, whatever.

What I wanna know is...how are we gonna police up all them Mexican robots when they start swimming the river because they realize the upgrades and oil quality are better on this side? We've clearly got the better programmers....I think it's a conspiracy to infiltrate us with foreign robots and take back Texas...(they can have Kalifornia).

Damn Invictus thanks for reminding me, I almost forgot Kalifornia was part of the United States. I did see where Sean Penn wants to make a holiday in Kalifornia to recognize the gay politician from the movie "Milk". Arnold Schwarzenegger already vetoed it once before saying if they wanted to recognize him the do it San Francisco where the guy was from, Sean Penn said that since the movie won an Oscar that it should be recognized by the entire state. My point is that we should unleash the Terminator on him!
