'small number' of military advisers going to Iraq

Post by Ranger »

Several initial teams of about a dozen special forces members from units in the region would begin arriving in Iraq soon, said one of the officials on a White House phone conference conducted on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, several U.S. officials told CNN that the Pentagon proposed sending Green Berets, Army Rangers and Navy SEALs to Iraq as military advisers and to collect intelligence.

And adding to the confusion in Iraq, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, one of Shia Islam's leading voices, has called for creation of new government that 'avoids past mistakes' in comments seen as a devastating blow to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki

Agreed. At least Rangers weren't thrown out of both theaters twice for being unmitigated douchebags.

SF as advisors I could see, Rangers and SEALs are more for breaking stuff and writing books (the latter only applies to half of those), and a move like that leads me to believe there is going to be more than advising going on.

I asked because Obama said there would be no combat troops. The main thing I am looking at is; it is ate up that we have to go back, and maybe clean up this mess. Advisers? He sending advisers to advise them on how to handle the insurgents, but this could have been prevented if he had listen to the advisers he had on the ground back in 2009 before we left that place unsecured. Bush might had sent us in because of bad intel, but what is Obama's excuse? Obama words can't be trusted. He says one thing, and does another. I hate to see more of ours getting killed for incompetence. Rangers, and SEALs are not trainers or advisers.
Oh I agree. I thought the same thing.

Why are we sending advisors on how to handle Insurgents at all? After 10 years they didn't learn a thing about it? If that's the case they deserve to be over run. One Muslim leader/organization is the same as the next. All amass power, then use religious bullshit to control an ignorant populace, while doing all the classic sins.

If the Iraqi's don't have enough backbone to stand and fight for their own country why should we give a shit?

To ask even 01 more of our's to shed an ounce of blood for them after they turned tail and ran is just wrong.

So here we have thousands of ISIS fighters, destroying everything in their path, people running for their lives and leaving everything behind, and we send 300 Warriors. Sound familier?

Let's hope the American commander on scene doesn't have to do the same. I have a very bad feeling about this.

If our leadership had any stones at all it would be someone worth a shit. I dont know who the ground commander is but if he's worth a damn I'll bet his control is a political appointee.
