On May 13, 2014, President Barack Obama will award Kyle J. White, a former active duty Army Sergeant, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry. Sergeant White will receive the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as a Platoon Radio Telephone Operator assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, during combat operations against an armed enemy in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan on November 9, 2007.

Sgt. Kyle White will be awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in November 2007. After his platoon was ambushed, he risked his life to rescue and comfort the wounded and dying and radioed for the help that saved his comrades.

In October 2001 I reported to Vicenza and became a part of the reactivation of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry (ABN). I can say that we (the senior leaders) built that Battalion from the ground up and we trained the same way. We never could have imagined how absolutely lethal that Battalion would become. I am proud to be a Sky Soldier!

I got to Vicenza in January '01 and was assigned to 1/508. When they first reactivated 2/503 they were all assed up. At one point it seemed like the entire BN was on extra duty (your BN area was gorgeous, though). It was good to see them get quality leaders and watch the transformation.

I also was on orders to go to the 173rd in Viet Nam. I was going through their jungle school, when I volunteered for the Rangers.

I also had orders to the 173rd in Nam, but went AWOL to get to Charlie Rangers!! What were they going to do to me, send me to Nam when I was already there or detach my WooPoo ring from OPO?!
