SITREP - Alfonso

Post by A1776 »

Hello, Rangers. I leave tomorrow to the MEPs hotel then ship out on the 3rd as an 11x. I have managed to get everything squared away back home before I leave. I am fired up to finally start the biggest chapter of my life to date and will make sure to update this thread in detail throughout my journey. Brand new life in this brand new year.

Hello Rangers, I have just completed the BCT portion of OSUT. Everything has been easy so far for me. The hardest thing here in my opinion is time. The days drag and the weeks fly, however. I begin the AIT portion of OSUT on Monday and report to Airborne on the 30th of April. The Ranger liaison said there is no pre-RASP anymore as well. My run times have gotten slower as we do not run much here. I ran much, much more as a civilian. Yesterday we finished our 10 mile ruck with a 35lb ruck and it was very easy. The 8 mile with 75lbs of ruck and 115lbs total was the hardest for me. First APFT I got a 13:24 2 mile, on APFT I got 68 push-ups, 53 sit-ups and a 13:37 run for a total of 248. My goal is a 300 before APFT 5.

I will continue to update this thread throughout my progress, Rangers.

Hello Rangers, tomorrow I graduate OSUT. I turned Blue today. Finished with a PT score of 274 on APFT 5. I came in at 131lbs at 5’6” when I was at 30th AG and weigh 142lbs now. 70 push ups, 66 sit ups and a 13:27 run. Shot 36/40 and fired 1065 live 5.56 rounds from my m4 the whole cycle. The OSUT portion of training was definitely a good intro to the basics of soldiering. I start Airborne on the 30th and hopefully RASP shortly after. OSUT in general was easy and I never had any trouble. My cycle was pretty cold with record lows on the daily that’s about it when it comes to suck. Ruck marches are easy here and PT is a joke. Everyone seems to pass. I recommend carrying a 249 or 240.. it sucks but it will make you stronger. Give and show maximum effort every time you get PTed and never half ass PT or show weakness. Violence of action for everything - Drill Sergeants love that. 95% of my company showed up in absolutely horrible shape as most guys couldn’t do 40 push-ups or run a sub 14:30 2 mile. The next 11b cycles later this year will be 21 weeks as well and have females with lower physical standards. I think I was one of the last all male cycles. All in all the hardest thing here is just time in my opinion.

Alfonso, I somehow missed to ping you to fix your signature IAW with our SOPs here. Please do so next time you are on the site.

Excellent update. One step in your process complete and closer to obtaining your goal of becoming a Ranger. Stay on top of your PT while you wait to go across post to Jump school. At jump school the hardest thing will also be time...but it should be more fun doing some new things there. You'll start to have some free time so ensure you stay out of trouble.

Do you have a group of folks going to Jump school with you and RASP?

Good evening Rangers, I just graduated Airborne School on Thursday the 17th. Airborne School was way too long for what it is in my opinion. Training to jump out of a door, pull risers and land should not take 8-10 full days of training. Ground and tower week were easy. First formation for PT at 0545 and you are usually done with the days training by 1700-1730. A lot of slow pace running all over the training site. Jump week was hectic but the best. The nights were late but jumping is pretty fun. Especially night jumps. I love the excitement of it. Keep your feet and knees together, eyes on the horizon and keep your legs limp and slightly bent. A lot of guys got hurt from landing because they didn’t follow those simple instructions that was drilled into us. Be prepared to run 500-1000m at Fryar DZ with that heavy chute and reserve in your recovery bag. Especially combat load. My class started 428 and graduated 309. 95~ of those drops were because they got 41’ed so make sure you do push-ups chest to deck and all the way up. Make sure you sound off every single word on the (slow) formation runs or you will get your dog tags pulled and a spot report. 3 of those and you’re out of the course. The PT is a colossal joke and a complete waste of time. Think of the bend and reach and the high jumper. All the other branches can’t believe that is what the Army does for PT. We have the weekend off and I get picked up for RASP hold on Monday and hopefully class up for the next RASP class.

Great work so far, Alfonso.

There are several members of this site in Pre-RASP and one other who graduate jump school last week. If you get time, get our Discord channel information and jump in. It's an app on phone and PC.
