Rangers, I have some bad news. For the past 3 months I have been dealing with some knee problems. I thought it was just minor and I could suck it up. It seemed to get better on my block leave. But while we were doing an unknown distance ruck to Cole Range, my knee just gave out. I finished the ruck. But the next couple days in the field were extremely painful and I could not run , and could walk with extreme pain. We did Land nav, and I got the majority of the points. When we got back I decided I needed to go to sick call. I should not have. I have been med dropped in the beginnig of week 3. I have IT band Syndrome and tears in my meniscus. I feel as if I failed my buddies and failed my mission. Im not here to make excuses. I messed up. I dont know where I will be going. But I know wherever I go I will be the best infantryman I could possibly be. And I hope to one day to return to Rasp. I am sorry Rangers. Have a good day.

Devin,

I know you are disappointed. You may feel like you failed but you did not. If you were simply hurt, as in it was just knee pain, then maybe you could have kept going. But turns out you were injured and now you need to recover. There is quite a difference between those two things. You didn't mess up, you actually did the right thing. Too many guys will keep going until something breaks instead of just being injured. If they won't let you stay while you heal then do exactly what you said. You will have another chance to come back it just might take a little bit.

You didn't quit. That is all that we ask of our people here. I am going to update your title. Once you know where you are going please change your signature block and let us know where you are going.

Go do great things and come back and take another shot at it when you heal up. Injuries are injuries. I tore my meniscus when I was a civilian and I know it hurts like hell. Kind of hard to walk, let alone run, with one serviceable knee. Keep your head up and drive on.

Rangers , I have been at the 82nd for the past two weeks. Im still upset I did not get to graduate with my class. But Im going fighting to be fighting to get a slot to Ranger school as soon as possible. We have a deployment coming up so I may have to wait until we get back. But I just wanted to update. I have an appointment with the orthopedic next week to see what the best course of action is. Hopefully Its not as bad as initially thought. I hope to get back into RASP as soon as the opportunity presents itself. I started with a goal and I will be damned if I don’t accomplish it. Have a good day Rangers.

Great to hear from you, Devin!. You have a few different choices now that you are at your new unit. Top thing is becoming a good follower and learn your job. Keep up with your PT. If there is a chance to go to Ranger school do your best to take it. The top thing now is to set your goals - are you planning to go back to RASP? If so ensure when you are counseled you let your team leader and squad leader know what you want to do. But that doesn't mean blow off your current duty...which is to become an out standing paratrooper.

I'm in the Bragg area. Let's link up for lunch some time when you are free. Let me know.

Roger Ranger Disinfertention. My plan is to just fix my knee. And become a leader at my unit. Once I am there I believe Ranger school would give me the experience and leadership capabilities to drop a packet for Rasp and crush it. I will PM you about linking up.

Rangers, heres a little update on the situation with me. Im currently in physical therapy, the therapist says hes trying to stabilize my knees and hopefully repair some damage. I feel good and am confident that I will be back to 100% in 2 months. The first day I got here my Squad Leader told me he can get me a surt slot and eventually a ranger school slot by the end of this year. Thats my goal right now. Heal up and go and get my shit. And then I should be able to get back into Rasp. So as of now I am reading the ranger handbook and preparing how I can. In about a month or so Im going to start a ruck progression , starting light and short distance to see how I feel. And hopefully the knees good and I can start really getting it on the rucks. Thank you Rangers and have a good day.

Sounds like your doing the right thing. Heal up, but stay focused on your goal.
You will get there. I spent a year in the 82nd before I got into the Rangers. Never give up on your goal!

Rangers its been a while since I last posted here. I got some good news. I start SURT here at Bragg in about a month. Im focused and am just doing PT and rucking. I feel healthy after a few months of wearing a brace and physical therapy. If all goes well I should be starting Ranger School in November. I plan to stay as long as it takes or keep going back if thats whats needed. Thank you and have a good day!

That's awesome. Hopefully Bragg doesn't flood away this week so you get your chance to go! 8)

Good to hear from you, keep driving on. Your injury doesn't define you, your attitude does.
