SITREP-David(atl456)

Post by atl456 »

Rangers, in a little over a week I will be heading to basic training. Thank you for all of the advice and guidance you have given me. I feel much more prepared for the journey ahead because of all the Rangers who have mentored me. I will update my SITREP at the MEPS hotel and as much as possible through out my training pipeline.

I'm at the MEPS hotel. I'm not feeling too nervous yet. I would just like to say thank you again to all the Rangers who have given me guidance and prepared me for what's ahead. To any one looking to get a Ranger contract, read all of the stickies and follow the directions given to you by the Rangers on this site. Don't take no for an answer. To the DEPs, your time left before you ship is precious. Prepare as much as you can. Unless you have a 300+ PT score, are a land nav expert and memorized all Ranger knowledge you'll feel unprepared to go(at least I do). Spend time with your family and the people who truly support you. I'll post another SITREP after basic.

Roger Ranger centermass.
I apologize I haven't posted an update sooner. Basic training was basic training. The way people made "relaxing Jackson" sound I thought it would be one or two steps up from summer camp. You still get smoked, have to take 2 minute showers, only make three or four phone calls while you're there(we got an extra one to plan for exodus), get yelled and cursed at ect. The hardest aspect of basic for me was leaving home. Many people right out of high school were home sick as well. we helped each other through it and in a couple weeks it subsides. I think you just have remember why you joined and put things in perspective. Read Ranger cdwdirect's "About Basic Training & AIT" in the "About OSUT" section. That post is a gold mine of information if you're about to go to basic. The PT in the mornings was easy so don't slack on the smoke sessions(which usually aren't too hard either). My final PT score was 288(62 push ups, 79 sit ups, 12:50 2 mile).
I'm on exodus leave right now but a started AIT a couple weeks ago. I was in holdover for two weeks while I waited to class up which was extremely boring. Having sometime to recover after basic training and read the EMT book was nice though. The discipline here is sadly lacking. People talk in formation, use their phones in formation, have their hands in their pockets ect. I found another option 40 who's motivated that I work out with. There's a lot of pull up bars in the company area and a half mile track around the battalion which are great resources. We're basically treated like children and there is a lot of wasted time standing in formation waiting. You're allowed to study flash cards while in formation or line so I take advantage of that. Taking the EMT course before hand is definitely paying off. I still study more than most people to try to keep good study habits.
Merry Christmas,
David

Happy Festivus, David!

I didn't feel like an adult until I was in my mid 20's! Welcome to the club. Good work so far. Keep it up. You're a student, so don't feel a need to correct others but remember to do it later on. If you are a leader be one. If not, learn to follow. You're doing great, keep it up. Merry Christmas.

Rangers,
I graduated AIT this past Friday and am now in airborne holdover at AIT. AIT wasn't particularly academically or physically demanding. Not unlike any other AIT we learned the basics. The hard part was standing in formation for hours wasting time and dealing with some of the people. Generally speaking people lacked discipline and couldn't stop talking. I'm proud to say I was one of five promoted to be promoted to PFC out of a class of 329. Airborne holdover isn't bad. We do details during the morning, do a short PT session after lunch and then are released to do PT on our own until 1700. I'll be heading to Airborne on April 26th. I'm definitely excited to go to Airborne and then on to RASP. Thanks for all the advice and mentorship given to me on my journey so far.

Thanks for checking in, David. Hope you are enjoying all the glorious things Fort Benning has to offer you! Have you gone to the main post gym or run up cardiac hill yet?

Looking back, the way I worded my last post could have been a lot better. I'm being held over at 68W AIT with all the other people who will be going to Airborne school so I'm still in Texas until April 26th unfortunately. But going to the main post gym and running cardiac hill are first on my to do list when I get to Fort Benning.

That's my lack of attention to detail. I know your MOS doesn't go to Benning until BAC. I would do 25 push-ups but my cat is on my lap... so, yeah I'll get to that 8)

Sorry for not posting in a while. I'm at pre-RASP now. As Lionsden said I didn't make this past class. The lowest score that classed up was a 273. I'm definitely still motivated though. We pt twice a day and I usually go to the Audie Murphy gym after we get released. I'm also doing a push-up/pull-up plan Rednovember recommended to me. Lionsden and Rednovember are in week 3 of RASP, heading to Cole Range next week.
