Cardiac, I hated that hill, I still hate that hill.

One benefit of being at Regiment was it was always the end of Thursday morning road marches and runs most other days of the week.

We'd usually do the double hill... cardiac and then a right by the o-course to hit that other hill. No wonder I used to be a decent runner.

Great to hear from you. Finding Boomer is great news. Continue to rally folks with similar mindsets and especially anyone going to RASP after jump school. Jump school may be tough only in how slow the runs are and silly some of the training is. There is value in it so just have fun.

Is there still a Smoothie King in the gym? We used to judge all the students and butter bars who would hang out over there sipping smoothies but not work out. I'd like to think I've grown up a bit since then.

Tell Boomer to post an update!
Ranger Disinfertention, haven’t seen a smoothie king yet. Must be at Smith’s gym, which from what I hear is a much larger facility.
We’re in a cool area, the A. Co barracks, which is right beside Jumpmaster and Pathfinder school. We see Rangers all the time walking around, pretty motivating.

I was at the OCS dfac yesterday evening and ran into Joel (J031), that was cool. He said he had just completed week one of RASP and seemed to be in good spirits.

I have not yet had the chance to take a hike up Cardiac Hill, but with as much free time as we have, I’ll check it out this week. Need to find the O course as well, if it’s accessible. Rangers, I want to throw on a rucksack and try to do a match or two a week on top of these snail runs... is there anywhere around here that has them to use? Don’t want to buy another one either.

Ah, yeah. I've been away from there for a long time I just assumed the name of the gym. I even forgot they moved the jump school barracks.

I seem to recall the post O-course being off limits unless you set up a time to use it as a unit. I don't want to be a debbie downer. As they say, do what your rank can handle. The Downing Mile is through the woods and you can do that anytime you want. It's located at the top of Cardiac Hill. If you are looking down the hill it's to the right. Also if you run by The Downing Mile and keep going down that side road Team Leader trail is there. That heads through the woods between post area and the river. You can sort of see it on a map. Ends up North of Subway somewhere around what is labeled "Fort Benning Stray Facility". I don't recall how long it is.

I'm not aware of an easy place to grab a ruck sack to use. Jump school has a bunch of them for you guys to jump in week 3. You could ask to sign for one to use for training. Just don't feel bad if they act like dicks. You're just a student after all.

Ranger Disinfertention, I was able to find Cardiac Hill last weekend before we did our final 5 mile run during tower week yesterday. It's a great workout to say the least, squeezes the weakness out of you. That last 150m or so is fun   . Haven't been to the Downing Mile yet, but it's on the to do list.

Airborne School has been alright, really laid back, and the time goes by as slow as the runs are. Just stay positive and have fun, and learn what you can. About 60-70 people did the 250 foot tower on Thursday, but I did not get the chance to do so.

Jump week is finally upon us this coming Monday. I'm fired up to exit an aircraft in flight, just not to sit in a harness for several hours, but I know it's part of the process. 8). Continuing to PT hard about every day and staying focused. We should get picked up for Pre- RASP within a few days after graduation next Friday.

Closing in on some of your first big challenges! It takes guts to jump out of a plane and if you aren't a little bit nervous you might need to get your head checked.

I was one of the next few people to go on the 250' tower before someone got hung up in it about half way. Can't say I missed out on that.

Keep at it and you'll be in RASP in no time. That's when the real fun begins.

Rangers, I’ve finally completed Airborne school and have obtained my wings. That first jump is something I’ll never forget.Feet and knees together is all it takes. Was fortunate to walk away from every jump! Saw some crazy accidents out on the drop zone. One guy got his leg caught in another chute’s suspension lines and landed on his back.

A couple of us have spent an ample amount of time getting our packing lists together just so we’re squared away when the time comes. DEPs/mentees make sure you have the “roughs” and “smooths” from the packing list from your residence, just have your parents/ friend(s)bring them to a graduation( BCT,Airborne) as it will save you a lot of money instead of having to go out and buy it like we did. Overall, have fun and don’t take it too seriously, you won’t be here very long.

We had our RASP brief Friday after graduation, and are scheduled to be picked up Monday at 08. Will report soon when I find out more about when we are supposed to class up.

Great tips for folks soon to be in RASP, Will. Hopefully they will follow it.

I hope they still put a bag on your back and make you run to the RASP building... if not, shit is too easy now.

Will, good to hear and good luck. Congratulations on graduating Airborne.

In 1985, the trip from Airborne School to RIP was in the back of an old UHaul Truck.

I always wondered how Regiment got that truck, it was parked behind one of the sheds for years and we used it for all kinds of stuff. Probably stolen.

Good evening Rangers, and mentees.

My third week here at Pre-RASP is wrapping up. Not a whole lot goes on here. The morning PT is decent, so you will get out what you put in. PT on your own time too, which there will be plenty of, since we typically get released in the early afternoon. We’ve done two rucks thus far, and they have been at a good pace. One thing I noticed as soon as I arrived here was the professionalism of the cadre and the low/zero tolerance for child’s play. Maturity here goes a long way.

I’m not 100% sure when we will be classing up, but it seems like it should be some time around late March. Can’t wait to get started and actually start learning!
Will post more updates in the future.

Hey Will,

Great update. Late March? Seems like you're in Pre-Rasp for quite some time. Is that looking normal for other folks too?

Rangers, the time has finally come. We took our PT test yesterday to determine who will class up. Myself, Boomer, Arch51, and Ambrose will finally be starting RASP this coming Monday. We seem to have a good class. Again, cannot be grateful enough for the resources this forum has provided me, along with the relationships I’ve built with some phenomenal people during my time here.

I'll post another SITREP here soon. Out.
