One of our mentees is in OSUT

Post by Jim »

At Ranger Steadfast's suggestion, I am taking the liberty of posting a note from one of our fine younjg men who is now at OSUT and doing quite well. I'm proud of his accomplishments.

Ranger Jim ,

I just wanted to update you with a SITREP of my journey. I am in week 5 of BCT. So far, i have a 293 APFT (was sick as a dog,300+ incoming withiut a fraction of a doubt). My scores were 89 pushups, 75 situps, and a 11:48 2 mile. I am still proud ,as that it the fastesr i have ever moved kn my life.

Also, I qualified Expert Marksmanship as well was was made PG in week 2, the 1SG was pretty surprised when the SDS promoted me. Also, my DS brought in a RI buddy of his to talk to me about any of my curiousities.

BCT in itself is pretty easy. The only unnerving event that occured was when our SDS started playing mind games with our guys' Ranger contracts. The morons in our bay left the latrine dirty, and screwed the platoon in 2 other tasks on day 4. So, the SDS counseled the entire PLT 3 tines, regardless of involvement, then told us we lost our contracts. It wss quite a worry, but proved to be simply a mind game.

Being PG is a double edged sword. Its a blend of being able to shape the PLT and dealing with dirtbags who need to get out. Apart from that, I wake up at 0430 every morning, loving life and resdy to meet and exceed the standards.

Finally got my 300 on APFT 4. 11:50 run, 84 push-ups and 85 sit-ups. I'm on my 36 hour pass and still going strong. I've been PG for about 8 weeks and its going great as well

Any new guys on this forum: Listen to everything this site and its members have to offer. Their wisdom has proven extremely helpful. I can't thank them enough. Basic is over, onto AIT...learning the basics of urban operations and patrolling is intoxicating. I can't wait to learn more. Thank you for your kind words, Ranger Jim, I can't iterate how much you and Ranger Goldcoast have prepared me.

More updates to come.

Rangers,

So, I turned blue today. My airborne date was pushed back 2 weeks and in the mean time, the cadre have selected about 6 guys to train up for the upcoming EIB. They are not 100% sure if we can get in, but I will find out for sure tomorrow whether or not I will have to opportunity. It's looking like we will, however. I'm going to devote everything I have to this...to earn an EIB before airborne school would be amazing.

I guess this is some sort of new program...I'm amped to have this chance to achieve something like this so early.

I will keep updating as much as possible.

Indeed, it would be amazing. Recommend you don't wear it at BAC. Never, never quit!

Rangers,

Well, the guys who were selected, the "program" we were starting, wasn't approved by some Sergeant Major. So, the early EIB is a no-go now. We had ourselves all fluffed up for nothing. It's ok, however, I will have my due chance. Awaiting airborne school for now. Continuing to improve my fitness and staying out of trouble.

Rangers,

I am currently in pre-RASP with cbc1. He and I are pretty competitive and going into this with great confidence.

Two people quit the first day. I mean, really? Damn, paperwork must have been taxing. Seeing people quit just fuels my motivation even more. Its the first truly challenging thing a lot of us have seen so far...why anyone would think of quitting is beyond me....

I'm excited to finally be under the control of Rangers. The atmosphere here and what I've seen the past few days around battalion is exactly what I want...I can't wait to class up.

My PT has improved a pretty good amount over airborne, as I've made it a point to get to Smith Gym pretty much every day. Each day is one day closer to Regiment.

Focused.

Thank you, Rangers, for all of the support and advice you have provided up to this point, I cannot thank you all enough.

Good SITREP. Keep em coming.

Remember; they can't kill you. And if they do, they can't eat you. And if they do, you won't taste good anyway, so fuckem!
