Airborne class 36-10

Post by Ace18 »

Training started today. We just used the mock door. Tomorrow is the 34 foot tower. It should be good training. I have a feeling Airborne School will.get real old real quick. Tomorrow I'm going to go to Audie Murphy gym to see what's available to me. The way I see it I probably wont start RASP till November, but I'll be ready doe the October class.

The 34 foot tower freaked me out the most. But there was a sexy little chick Lt right behind me and if there is one rule in my life it is never look like a pussy in front of a girl especially if they fell out of the run that morning.

Finished ground week and am half way through tower week (today was the 250 ft. all we have left is mass exit and combat jump practice). Next week is a short jump week, so I will be completing 2 jumps Monday, 2 on Tuesday and 1 Wednesday. Our night jump is cancelled, but we were told that we wouldn't be doing our second jumps till 1900 or 2000 anyways so that's close. Pretty much after training I go to the gym then sleep so I'm doing my best to stay out of trouble and get prepared. I checked my training pipeline and I'm going to be in RASP hold till November. That just means more prep time. I will be as ready as possible.

Keep your feet and knees together!
Amen...

I remember hearing this in jump school back in the day and thinking it was just another one of those things said by Army instructors that didn't really mean much. How wrong I was.

That truly is the secret to landing like a sack of shit and being able to walk off the drop zone.

I've landed on runways, hard packed dirt flight landing strips, rocks in the desert of Egypt, and just plain hard ass ground, even on Fryar DZ, and have walked away unbroken every time, except for once, simply because I realized the importance of doing exactly what that instructor said in jump school, and what is always reiterated by every Jumpmaster thereafter encountered.

Keep your feet and knees together.

Don't quit stud, the Army has a lot of awesome shit for you to do if you try hard, and can meet the standards.

Tomorrow at 0400 Jump Week will officially start. I think we're doing 1 hollywood and 1 combat jump. Both with T-10D's, our class is not getting the new T-11's. It should be a long day, the Air Force has already called and said the planes are going to be late. To me that just means we'll get a night jump for our second jump. I'm jumper number 12 or 13 for all the jumps except the first one, I'll be the second or third jumper out of the left door for that one. Graduation is on Thursday and we have not been briefed on what is going to happen in terms of getting to RASP Hold, one black hat said we'll get the 4 day weekend and then we'll have to run with all our stuff to processing the next Tuesday. My RASP class won't start till November with a tentative grad date in early February. A long ways to go, but I'm just taking everything as it comes.

Keep your feet and knees together and execute a dynamic PLF upon contact with Fryar DZ. Tell the black hat I said, "Clear Sergeant!...Airborne!!!"

You have no idea just how short your time is! It will pass all too fast. Make the most of it.

Rangers,

My processing into RASP Hold has been delayed. Our jump week has been plagued by interruptions. To make a long story short instead of getting 5 jumps in 3 days we only got 2. We have to make up the rest on Monday and Tuesday and we'll have a drop zone graduation Tuesday. A bit of a delay but it shouldn't cause any problems.

My first two jumps went well. For the first one I was the first jumper on the second pass. That was a good time. The winds have averaged 10-20 knots so we jump between wind holds. The wind makes for some interesting landings. Keeping my feet and knees together, hopefully my next post will be about graduation.
