Go in as Enlisted or officer

Post by csbball »

Hello Rangers, I have a problem, I am currently waiting for a opt 40 to become available, then ill be joining the Ranger Regiment. My problem is i have the option to become a Lieutenant or just join as enlisted soldier. My recruiter keeps telling me to join as a specialist and fuck becoming a lieutenant until i have pass Basic, airborne, RASP, and do a first tour as a Ranger before i become a officer. I talked to another Recruiter and he said i might not get the chance to become a Officer once i join. Im trying to do whats best for myself and family(have a wife) I understand the Difference between the two, i would like the opinions of Rangers or anyone who is in the army. Thank you

To Zone, Yes i have, I used the search button i even went into different forums to look, and found nothing, And if for some reason you dont like the question i asked, instead of writing some bullshit answer which you did, why even bother with my question and move on. I did some research like all rangers say to do, i found nothing, so i posted, i have been on this site for 3 months, i read every fucking topic, thats all i do is read this forum, so honestly i dont want to hear shit about doing research. Some of us NEW guys are just trying to figure things out before we get screwed by our recruiters thats why we ask questions on this forum, This is not some question, its an opinion i wanted to hear from Rangers on this site as what they would do and why. Sorry to ALL who this topic pissed off

There' are ways to stand up for yourself and then there are ways to start off on the wrong foot and trip over it.

Frustration is a fact of military life and one must learn how to handle it.
Whatever you do should you join, you need a thicker skin. MUCH thicker skin. NCOs in particular call it as they see it, exactly as they see it and you clearly are not used to that. Ask your wife to cuddle you; as for us, it is all mind over matter: we don't mind. You don''t matter.

ZoneIV that was a very metered response, definitely better than deserved. I will end my discourse on the matter with that as I feel that continuance would only cause to enrage me further.

I'm going to look beyond your tantrum and the responses to it. Enough has been said and no more comment is necessary. Yes, the issue you face - Option 40 enlistment vs. OCS enlistment - has come up on this site a number of times in the last couple of months. The answer to your question is to be found inside of you. Do you want to serve as a Ranger or as an officer. If you go the OCS route you will be branched according to the needs of the Army. I agree with the advice your recruiter gave you about enlisting with a Ranger contract, serving for a few years and then go to OCS. Your odds of getting branched to Infantry will be much better and you will also have a shot of getting back to the Regiment as an officer.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

As a former SSG who went to OCS, I can attest that you can have a full career as an officer. I led three platoons, two companies and a battalion. Not to worry, over time you develop very thick skin.
