Rangers, question about weight gain / weight loss

Post by DS1979 »

Rangers, knowing how much body mass one person loses while going thru Ranger school, is it advisable to go into Ranger school at the heighest amount of possible body weight allowed? If so, then does the theory of the bigger they are the harder the fall, come into play?....Personally im a short guy but i pack on a lot of mass since im an avid bodybuilder....would it be advisable to go in at a leaner and thinner body mass or the more the merrier?....

also do the thinner guys that go in already thin have any harder of a time since they're losing most of what they already got?

I.E. energy is conducted by the burning of fat and ultimately muscles...so im assuming lacking in either or both departments will result in lack of enegy?

Thanks in advance to any ranger who can provide some feedback.

Don't worry about it. If you're in shape you'll be fine.

It don't matter. You're body is gonna fail regardless of what weight you go in at. It's your heart and your head that gets you through Ranger School.

I was a very fit trooper just prior to my attendance to the Ranger course. I decided I needed to "Put on some expendable weight" and plumped up to 198lbs, which did absolutely NO GOOD. I dropped every ounce of my ill-gotten weight before I was even half way through mountains. I still had the second mountain FTX, Desert and Florida to go. My body went back to it's normal weight and it REALLY SUCKED!

From watching survivor apparently the best move to do is to bulk up muscle wise before something like RS. In my RS class there was a dude who purposely chunked up, and I gotta say that I was jealous of his ass.

I hated Mountains where when you were at camp they would give you your MRE for the next day the night before. I always opened it up to see what I could trade and inevitably would end up eating something. :?

Based on what I saw down there it's the big body builder types that suffer the most and can't meet their caloric needs, I think the thin guys last longer and I knew a little guy "Wingnut" who put on a couple pounds.
I myself lost between 25 and 30 pounds (large frame body type) and was suffering by the end of Florida phase.
If I was you I would'nt worry about it and Good Luck.

I concur completely the bodybuilder types seem to suffer mentaly also, they just hate seeing those store bought muscles wither away!

But we're wasting our time advising this bonehead until he gets the sand out of his clit.

... I may hold the record for weight loss. When I went in, I weighed 210. When I came out, I weighed 158. Net weight loss: 52 lbs.

I put on a little extra before heading to school, but I think it actually hurt me more than helped me. I'd rather run with a light frame going in. I went from 185 down to about 155.

OK, you win by two pounds. I went from 210 at the start to 160 by the time we rolled in from our last patrol in Florida. Of course, I think I was back up to 170 by the time I left the Ranger PX that night :D :D
I went from 195 and hard as a rock down to about 170. Then up to 205 in 12 days after I graduated. I was the apitome of a chipmunk!

I was eating and drinking everything in sight, and sleeping 10 to 12 hours a day!
