Unfortunately our hard work has been reduced to a damned inch long pin on the blues. I absolutely fucking hate it.

Before they created the little pins, we could not display the Ranger Tab on the blue uniform, Many of us sewed it under the pocket flap on the left chest pocket. Where there's a will...

I definitely lucked out being in a recon platoon while in 2nd Cav, and I had incredibly NCO's to boot. Old school land nav was incorporated in some fashion into almost everything we did. It was invaluable when I got to Pre-Ranger & RS. Even still in RS I still sprinted every point as I knew how much of a crusher landnav was and I didn't want to get up an do it again the next moring (& it just so happens in fucking poured the next morning during the 2nd go).

With the GWOT all but over I think units will return to hammering fundamentals such as map & protractor landnav.

Good luck to your son PerryB. Hopefully he can find a way to get out on to the landnav courses to practice.

You nailed it. That's the main issue as I see it now. Our NCO corps is weak from top to bottom. The good ones are tired and the bad ones are lazy.
