$250 Stimulus Check For Retirees, SSI and Disabled Vets

Post by ShotUp »

Just a quick FYI in case anyone missed this information.

$250 stimulus check in 2009
A one time payment of $250 will be paid out in 2009 for people in the following groups:

People currently receiving Social Security.
State government retirees not eligible for Social Security.
Veterans receiving pensions from the Department of Veteran Affairs.
People receiving SSI payments. Supplemental Security Income payments are for people who have little to no income and is intended to meet the basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.

According to my local VA for Vets getting disability compensation they will start sending those checks/ direct deposits out in June. Any questions I'd be happy to help.

Ranger Silverback,

As far as I know it is in fact considered a pension. I was told that I would be receiving this check and the only thing I recieve is disability compensation.

I will make another call to make sure.

A quote from the VA's press release:

"To be eligible for the $250 payment, VA beneficiaries must have received compensation, pension, dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC), or spina bifida benefits at any time between November 2008 and January 2009. Also, beneficiaries must reside within the United States or Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. No application is necessary. VA will use its existing payment records to determine eligibility for the $250 payment."

I found this and called and it seems that if you are paid a disability compensation you will receive this check.
