DISMOUNTED RECONNAISSANCE TROOP - RSTA

Post by NG_11B30 »

I've got some new poop for those 11B's within the Dismounted Recon Troop (DRT). I've sent out a few copies of the SOP I made for the DRT Scout Teams. But in the very near future it will be availabe online for you to download directly without asking me for a copy. It will be available on an official US Army site, BCKS Mounted Maneuver Net, Recon page. I will post the links here at the end of the page, you will need an AKO username and password to access the info.

In addition, there are several bits of training material which will be of tremendous use to you and your Recon Soldiers. I have posted them there for you to utilize, they were not made by me - you'll see where they came from when you open them. Keep in mind that these materials were made for LRS teams, and that manpower within the DRT Scout Team is different.

Also I have posted some stuff that I found around the various Army websites that will be of use to you. Such as the DRT MTOE, training materials for various optics, weapons, and equipment found in the DRT Scout Team. I need to add more materials on the HF radios, ANCD, ASIP's, Wave Propagation, etc.

I am working on a power point presentation to explain the characteristics and capabilities of the DRT Scout Team. That and the SOP should be available within the next week or so. Please encourage your Soldiers and Leaders to visit the Recon collaboration page, its semi secure and a much better forum to discuss sensitive TTP's.

You can start discussions on the network, I encourage you to do so on the RECON page, because the webmaster is going to build a separate page there, just for the Dismounted Recon Troops.

The RECON page is here:
https://forums.bcks.army.mil/CommunityB ... x?id=70405

Downloads for DRT Scout Teams: https://forums.bcks.army.mil/CommunityB ... 437&view=k

There is a buzz on the street that The Scout Leaders Course, Cavalry Leaders Course, and Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course will soon merge into the Army Reconnaissance School... I'm sure we all have 'concerns.'

Lastly, remember RSTA is a dead term, you are not RSTA, what you do is RSTA. Please share this with your units: https://forums.bcks.army.mil/GetAttachm ... &aid=23998

Uhhh Mr reconnaissance expert...that's exactly what we are doing right now. Is the Armor school gonna' hunt us down and kill us for violating the Poser point...ooops I meant Power Point directives?

Gimme' a fucking break with this Armor school brainwashing you're trying to push. Stop right now!

Chill, The war is over on this one. The combined arms directorate at Ft. friggen Knox - the armor center- is responsible for the doctrine of the DRT. I don't like it either, anymore than I like a black beret, but whats done is done. There are Soldiers to train. I complained I wrote arguments, check out my other post on this board RE: RSTA. Its crappy, but its the system we're given to work with.

This is a partial list of publications you should get your hands on in the DRT:
FM 3-20.96
FM 3-20.971 – keep an eye out for the new one, this one covers only stryker units.
FM 3-55.93
FM 3-05.210
FM 31-20-5
FM 31-23
TC 21-24
FM 7-92
CALL 02-2
FM 3-18
FM 3-20.98
FM 3-05.222 (especially chapter 4)

You can go to http://www.train.army.mil/ and login. Search for FM’s there. Also, you should get your hands on ST 3-20.96 (no its not a typo, its not the same as FM 3-20.96) It is the Squadron TacSOP written by the Army for Reconnaissance Squadrons. That publication will help you flesh out your Scout Team/Platoon SOP’s.
