Ranger Disinfertention, great news! I received my MEPs date, April 15th and 16th. After that, my recruiter said he just has to wait for MEPs to process everything and then we should be set to sign my contract and swear in.

Nathan,

That is great news. You have a week to prepare yourself for the pressure of MEPs. Remember, you want an 11X OPT40. Don't settle for anything less than that. It is YOUR career. They want YOU to sign. You don't need them. You want to volunteer to work at your highest level and you already know that is with an OPT 40. Never sell yourself short. Get what you want, wait for what you think you deserve at this point. Good luck!

Ranger Disinfertention, I appreciate the advice. I’m not signing anything unless it specifically says Option 40. My recruiter said I wouldn’t be signing anything at MEPs and that I’m just going to confirm my PiCat score, take the TAPAS, and do the physical/medical evaluation. We shall see. Right now I’m preparing mentally for the new experience.

Nathan, you are heading to MEPs tomorrow. Please check in with us when you get back! Do not settle if they do present you with contracts. Stick to your goals.

Ranger Disinfertention, MEPs went well. The first day sucked. I had to take the full ASVAB because I didn’t verify my PiCat. So my ASVAB score is now an 88. Although that still qualifies me for everything. The second day went well. I was lucky enough to have one of the coolest guys in charge. He made the process enjoyable. There were a lot of prior service guys in there. So I gathered some info from them as well. I passed the medical and airborne physical. So I should be all set to sign. My recruiter said June first I can sign a contract, because I will officially be a senior then, and at that point I can reserve my job and options. I’m hopeful I should have no problem getting an option 40 in my contract. Until then, I’m going to continue to improve my APFT scores.

Nathan, check your GT score - that is the key one. Don't quote me but I think you need a 105 to qualify for an OPT 40. A score of an 88 sounds like you should qualify but it's been a long time (there are several key scores for the ASVAB as far as I do not understand it.. )

Be patient. June 1st is the first look for jobs. Work for your goals not for your recruiter. Post a PT update with us here and keep us informed!

Ranger Disinfertention, I didn’t ask my recruiter for my GT score however he did say I still qualified for an option 40, so it must be higher than 105. I’ve started a new workout program geared more towards functional fitness. Hoping to see some improvements in PT scores. Will post an update soon.

Sounds good Nathan. Train hard but also ensure you understand recovery. I don't see a recent APFT in your post. Conduct one and post your scores with chin-ups if able. When do they expect your contract will be open?

Ranger Disinfertention, I apologize for the wait. My recruiter said I can begin contract negotiations in two weeks when I become a senior. If i get my option 40, I'll sign then swear in. My latest APFT scores are: 2 mile - 14:15, 5 mile - 40:40, push-ups - 68, sit-ups - 75, and 15 pull-ups. I still need to improve those, but the run times were what I've been striving for, and am finally seeing some improvement.

That all makes sense. Make sure you wait for the contract you want. This is one of the few times in your career where you fully pick your destiny so own it.

Good scores all around. You know you need to improve a bit on the running but it will come with time as you keep working on it!

Do you plan to play any sports your senior year?

Ranger Disinfertention, it unfortunately will vary on my work schedule. If I am able to, I'm planning on running cross country and track my senior year. Just to improve my runs some. I'm also going to start incorporating rucks into my training more often. I've been lacking in doing those.
