Introduction - Brian

Post by BrianS21 »

Hi, my name is Brian and i'm an 18 year old senior in high school. I live in Thomaston, Georgia. I'm on track to graduate by January 12th, and will be contacting a recruiter shortly after to begin the enlistment process. I've always been involved in sports and working out in general, so as of right now, my fitness level is pretty good. (Although there's always room for improvement.) The challenge of RASP and life as a Ranger is what has drawn me to the 75th Ranger Regiment over all the other units in the Army. The more I research, the more I want to prove myself and be a part of such an elite group of individuals. I look forward to learning more and am thankful for the opportunity to be a member of this forum.

My current PT numbers are:
Push-ups: 74
Sit-ups: 82
2 mile run: 13:21
5 mile run: 37:41
Pull-ups: 16

Great intro, Brian. If your goal is to become a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment, this is an excellent resource and place to prepare yourself. It takes your effort to do so though.

What sports did you/are you playing? Why are you waiting until after school to contact a recruiter? The Delayed Entry Program allows you to sign up prior to graduation so you can establish your timeline. I would recommend you reach out to a recruiter sooner rather than later so you can understand your options. There is a whole list of different experiences when it comes to signing an OPT 40 contract (Ranger contract). If you are not familiar with it, I'd recommend you do some research on this site and the Google machine and go talk to your local recruiter.

Great PT scores. Are you doing pullups or chinups? As I have said before recently, ensure you are self testing on the correct one while working out both.

Thank you Ranger CharlieRanger1FFV and Ranger Disinfertention. I've played football and wrestling every year since 3rd grade. As far as contacting a recruiter later instead of sooner, my dad advised me to hold off on entering the Delayed Entry Program so I could "focus on school and sports instead of the military." He's never been wrong when giving me advice so I always take it. But if you think it would be better for me to DEP in now I can certainly do so. I honestly haven't trained on doing chinups as often as I should, I tend to only work on my pullups, so I'll get on that right away.

The top reason why I would tell you to talk to one now is to ensure you get an OPT 40 contract for your shot to attend RASP. Your Dad is 100% correct though. The only thing he may not be aware of is some folks have to wait months before the contract they want becomes open (pending MOS and availability). If you want to do this you need to secure it in writing. Too many folks have come here, signed a contract without an OPT 40 and been unable to attend RASP. I think you can be a DEP for up to 12 months but don't quote me on that... It is very low requirements and I actually think it is voluntary.

Research some of the jobs for Regiment if you haven't picked yet and give it some thought. I'm not here to tell you what to do, just to advise what might be a good idea.
