Introduction - Hank

Post by Seleucus »

Hello my name is Hank, and I recently signed a 11x option 40 contract.

After graduating college I determined that I lacked fulfillment in the financial world and sought to serve my country. Subsequently, I looked at OCS and other branches of the military, but then decided that enlisting with a option 40 contract would lead to the best path in my quest for a career in the Army. I ship July 31st, and am currently focusing on optimizing my physical fitness, mental toughness, and spiritual clarity. In other aspects of my preparation I recite the Ranger Creed, read about the heroism of the 75th to maintain motivation, and explore other aspects of military history.

I am about to test again for the APFT, and will update shortly. I played football and rugby in college, and I am working hard to transition from a strength athlete to an endurance one. I look forward to hearing insight, and thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Hank

Pretty ugly bust of you on Wikipedia, Hank.

Welcome to ArmyRanger.com! Really glad you found us. And an interesting point in your journey to be getting here. I have promoted you and you have access to our Mentoring Zone. Since your time is short take advantage of it, do what you can, or just read. Check the PM I sent you for additional information.

What was your undergraduate degree in? Please post your APFT and what are you doing with such a short amount of time to prepare? If nothing else, use the time to re-connect with friends and family... It's worth it.

Thank you for the welcome, and the admission into the Mentoring Zone Ranger Disinfertention. I majored in economics, and minored in classical history which I particularly enjoyed.

I am spending my time staying out of trouble, working out, and reading. I am also doing some side jobs to stay busy and make extra cash. Just took a map reading and navigation course, and looking forward to keep learning about land nav.

Rough average from recent tests:

Pushups: 85
Situps: 70
2 Mile: 13:30
5 Mile: 38:45

Will update with a formal test shortly. As stated earlier, focus is increasing endurance and run times.

You're scores are good, Hank. If you aren't accustomed to running 5+ miles just doing it more will help. Your run times are not bad at all but they do have room for improvement!

Was the map reading and land nav military related? If not tell me a bit more about it. Getting familiar with that stuff is definitely a good thing but I wouldn't want you to get any bad habits.

Ranger Disinfertention, the land nav was not military related but it was solid for a day course. Another student in the course was a ex-Army (he was there to teach his daughters) and told me the grids were different but the concepts were similar to what is taught in the Army. At the very least the course were a good refresher in basic map/compass skills and gave me confidence going forward. Hopefully I should be able to attend a local land navigation course that is offered for DEPers every now and then in my area.

Ranger IntelToad does one every now and again. He has been a bit MIA, but if he offers one, seek it out.
