Ranger school/rasp/75th.

Post by Tvoss26 »

Rangers,

This is my first post on this site so please excuse me if its in the wrong spot or has wrong format.

So I have a avalible option 40 contract. Im
Very interested in joining the service. I was a professional athlete but got hurt and sponsors got pulled and had to quit. With that being said im highly interested in the ranger route due to the intensity. Not just regular infantry. My old man went to ranger school and has the tab but not the scroll so he wasnt in the regiment. My questions are more about rasp and what to prepare for.

1. Packing (anything that helped you)
2. Best way to prepare for land nav
3. My PT right now consist of ALOT of running, push ups, sit ups, pull ups and then some lifting. Im in top notch shape but under the conditions of being hungry and tired that will definitely make things challenging.
4. Boots. (Whats the best. Did you bring more than 1 pair)
5. Any tips or advice you have would be great. Im ready to hear it all.

Thanks much. I highly appreciate it.

Hey Vossman. Welcome to the site. We have a few stickies inside of the introductions area you just posted in. I'd recommend you read those and identify the issues in your post before replying to me or anyone else who will pass on advice.

OPT 40 contracts can be hard to come by. If you know that is what you want to do I would secure it quickly. If you do that let us know. This is probably the best, and only site specifically built with a section for mentoring OPT 40 folks that has years of information in it.

Try searching our site for some of the questions you asked. Arm yourself with some of the discussion points on here. I was just talking to one of the OPT 40 folks about boots a week or two ago.

If you secure an OPT 40 contract one of the Ranger's here runs an informal class about map reading and land nav. That might be an option for you.

We have a whole forums dedicated to PT - If you are some form of athlete the only thing you'd probably have to work on is the APFT specifics and rucking.

Again welcome here. I'm tossing you a freebie... we used to lock threads when we thought folks didn't read all the rules but I'm soft in my old age (33 this year! that's ancient in this community...). Again, confirm you've read the stickies and then adhere to them before you post another topic or reply.

Ranger disinfertention, I appreciate the “freebie”. I reviewed the site further per your request and have found some valuable information. My question is about the stickies. I read the rules, and found some
Info on my questions but not sure where to find the stickies. Maybe its cause im on a mobile device?

Thank you sir

It's in an announcement at the top of this forum so technically not a sticky, I misrepresented that.

Yes sir, and there are not any 11x option 40 contracts until around august is what I was told. Kind of a bummer but it does give me time to train.

Thank you

Well, it never goes without being said even though every thread on here that has this type of comment in it, it gets told to someone trying to sign up...

It's your career. Only sign the line when it is exactly what you want to do. They will tell you they can renegotiate your contract. They will tell you that you can volunteer in basic. They will try to sell you a different MOS with an OPT 40. All of these things are true but do not do it unless it is exactly what you want to do. You said 11x Opt 40. So be patient! Waiting 6 months now is better than 4 years of what if.

Ranger Disinfertention,

Thank you for the advice. I agree. Ill
Wait as long as I have to for what I want. This morning at 04 I couldnt sleep, decided on going for a run and completed the 5 mile in 30:30. Was pretty stoked on that!

Ranger Disinfertention,

Great news sir, this week I linked of up a friend of my dad (dad is a 85 ranger school grad) his friend Colonel David Fivecoat is the former commander of the airbourne and ranger training brigade. This week he got me on benning and we ran mulitple obstacle courses one of which included the “downing mile” very cool stuff. We also visited camp rodgers. Visted the 75th area and i got to pick the brains of many current 75th guys. We also attended the ranger graduation 04-18 and watched “rangers in action”. Very cool stuff and I cant wait to get my contract to join!! Just a waiting game now.

Hey Vossman,

That is a really unique opportunity. Glad you got to meet some of the men who do it day in and day out. What are you doing to prepare for the military and your OPT40?

Please always capitalize Ranger here. Besides that, we ask for proper grammar, although it's never perfect. I figure you are not on a computer typing to us but try a bit harder.

Have you checked in with your recruiter lately? Are they still saying August for a 11X OPT40?
