Welcome to ArmyRanger.com Hydracker.

It's great that you found us and have decided to post here. If you haven't noticed yet, there is many years of information and direction here for young folks and DEPs to take advantage of. Ensure you do that by reading FAQs and stickies while leveraging the search feature before you post questions. We do have rules here and we ask that members follow them. Google or other search engines are great tools as well - make sure you ask an informed question first.

Since you have not secured a contract yet, posting your APFT scores is optional. It sounds like you are fairly familiar with it though so please advise us to your current scores and what your plan is to improve.

Why are you interested in the military? Did anyone if your family serve?

Regarding your questions, I have no immediate family in the military other than my grandfather who in ww2 served in Marine aviation, but he passed away before I was born. The reason I am interested in the military stems from my dad telling me about the USMA around 4 years ago. Ever since then I have done research on the different branches, units, and jobs. The Reason I want to become a Ranger specifically is because I want to push myself to be the absolute best I can be.

My APFT scores from last time I tested where.
Pushups 35
Situps 41
Pullups 4

I understand I have a ton of progress I need to make. The way I plan on improving is getting up before school to PT. I also plan on joining the swim team next season at my school.
Great goals so far. Fitness is a big part of the military and if you are in front of that it is one less thing to focus on while you learn your job. If he told you about the USMA why do you want to be enisted instead of going to West Point or another academy?

I apologize for such a late response. The main reason I would like to go the enlisted route is because I would like to go in right after high school. I believe that if I where to go the enlisted route, and at a later date attend West Point, or another way of commissioning. It would make me a better leader since I would have seen both sides of the Army.
In some circumstances I would say that is true but not always. Either way it is your choice and I am only asking to see if you've thought about it at all.

Check the rules on current active duty members attending West Point and make sure that lines up with your goals in case it becomes one. Also, once you are active duty you will either have to attend OCS with a 4 year degree completed or execute the Green to Gold program (or attend USMA but I am less familiar with how that application works). I'd recommend you research all three and let us know what you find out! 8)

hydracker wrote: February 7th, 2018, 7:47 pm As for OCS I could enlist then serve for however long I signed my contract for. Then get out and use the G.I. bill to go to a 4 year university. Then attend OCS after graduating college.

Although going to west point or commissioning as a officer a different route is entirely possible. These goals are fairly far away. At the moment my main goal is to graduate high school, and enlist with a opt. 40 contract. As well to start living the Ranger Creed in my everyday life.
Hydracker, good work researching those topics. Generally what you said is correct, or at least correct enough to keep your goals in check minus this area - OCS is for active duty members that currently have 4 year degrees. While you are enlisted if you earn a 4 year degree you can then attend OCS while you are on active duty. If you separate from active duty to go to school you can attend ROTC and commission from whatever college you go to.

Really good wrap by you at the end there. You have your goals and we look forward to helping you achieve them however we can.
