Ranger Disinfertention, it's a lot of fun if you like low oxygen levels and tons of coughing. (sarcasm of course - sorry I have a dark sense of humor thanks to the police dept) It's awful not being able to do anything to help him, but it is what it is. He was a preemie so unfortunately we are pretty used to this by now.

Michael, thank you for being an LEO. Being a trooper in any state is a huge accomplishment.

Sorry too for hearing about your child being sick, I have three myself and I know how much that hurts when they are not well.

I am not trying to be anywhere negative, but I'm curious why you are pursuing this goal at your age with a knee injury and a family. With that trooper experience and certifications, isn't a good local law enforcement position a good option ?

Ranger IntelToad,

I am looking into local law enforcement also as an option, but with military being an option I wanted to continue to learn about the preparation and process that is required if the family and I decide to go that direction. I figure worst case scenario I train as if I my goal is special operations (growing up all I wanted was the special operations community, but I had the opportunity to play NCAA golf on a scholarship so I went with my education first), and if I train hard to prepare for RASP and for life in the Regiment I would be more than prepared to excel in any police department and qualify for a tactical team (which is what I would like to do if I went the law enforcement route again).

Sorry if that was a little long winded, but in simplest of terms I want to learn from everyone here so I can rehab, improve myself, continue to learn, and succeed in whatever I do. Those are the same traits I would like to pass onto my kids, so I want to lead by example.

Hope that makes sense....

Fair enough, not long winded, thanks.

Good luck to you.

Ranger IntelToad, playing only 9 holes is a sure way to break 100 :D (I'll knock out 100 for the joke)

That's what I tell the students that don't listen to me

Rangers,

Quick SITREP:

I've been running between 2-3 miles per week and trying to work up. I've also been adding some sprint work in at the end of my runs. Since I'm not running too long of a distance (one mile each run as I strengthen the knee and muscles), I've been doing some of the sprint work after my runs. I figured that would reduce the risk to injury since the muscles are already warmed up. I've been pushing to run at a consistently fast pace (as fast as I can go anyways right now) to better my times.

Today I ran a mile for time to see where I was with my pace since I wasn't timing it. I was just pushing as hard as I could. Before this started a couple of weeks ago, a few weeks after I was cleared to run, I was running at a 9:00-9:15 pace which is somewhat embarrassing. But it is what it is. Today I ran 1.05 miles in 8:04 (that's in my neighborhood with a vast majority being uphill - some steep downhills and gradually steep uphill).

I know I still have a long way to go to build up that pace for multiple miles and to still get the times down, but to shave off a minute (or more) in a few weeks. I'm just going to stick with it, and I'm hoping to bump up to 1.5 miles per day, three times per week to get the total from 2-3 miles/week to 4.5-5 miles/week.

Thanks for everything and the support. I'm going to keep busting my butt and see what happens.

Thank you Ranger Disinfertention. After the initial diagnosis of pneumonia, he started some new medicine and seemed to be getting better. Then this morning he woke up and I can hear the crackling and wheezing again in his lungs with a stethoscope. So we are back on the treatment plan. Hopefully that works, but if it doesn't we will just head back to the ER (an all too familiar place for us with him). Thank you for asking!!!

Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Wish you the best in whatever direction you choose, and prayers out for the young one that he/she gets better quickly and can go back to just being a kid.

Also LE here, and a great miniature golfer after about 6 beers.

Mike, A friend and I own a town-house on the Maryland Shore (St Michaels, MD), it is on the 9th hole of a golf course. Neither of us play golf. How's that for ironic.

Ranger Jim, that is very ironic! I go to the shore fairly often. I'll be down there at my parent's condo in OCMD June 16-18 for the Air Show. We take the family every year to watch the Blue Angels (or Thunderbirds).

Rangers, quick update.... I fell at work a few weeks ago and am awaiting results of an MRI on my right knee (same knee as the ACL) for a potentially torn meniscus or MCL. Doctors are hoping it is just meniscus since that is an easy one and will be back in the gym in a couple of weeks. Was told no running, squats, or really any lower body stuff until results come back. Continuing with my upper body workouts though.

Follow up with my orthopedic surgeon is June 30th to find out what the game plan is so I can get back to running ASAP.
