Introduction- Kenny

Post by Arch51 »

Hello, my name is Kenny. I am 18 years old and a high school graduate. In high scool I played football, tennis, swimming, and a year of cross country. I'm on a path to become a Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment, and intend to be a part of this community to obtain knowledge. I look to be a part of a tight-knit organization held to perform important duties at a high standard. That combined with the missions Rangers are tasked to do are the reasons I want to be a Ranger.

Last March I had PRK eye surgery, I require UV protection for a year and eye drops for unknown period of time(I hear it is usually less than a year). The recruiter told me the need for UV protection is not a problem, but I can't attend Basic if I'm reliant on eye drops. He said once I don't need them anymore I can enlist. I made it clear that I will only go in with an 11x Option 40 contract. However I have recently found out about Ranger Foward Observers and becoming interested in learning about the 13f MOS.

Kenny, welcome. Please tell us more about yourself and why you want to become a Ranger. Read the FAQ ands use the search feature located on the Quick Links. Most of the questions you might have can be answered using these features. I see you have self-administered a PT test. You now have a PT baseline to build on. You need to work on PT. There are a couple threads on the site. Read the letters from school thread. Never, never quit!

Roger, Ranger Jim and Ranger CharlieRanger1FFV. It is an honor to be here.

A little more about me: I'm around 5'5" tall and weigh 130 lbs. I live in North Carolina. Currently applying for a seasonal(6 weeks) part-time job at UPS as a package handler. Everything on my APFT needs improvement, as well as picking up and carrying odd heavy objects.

Why I want to be a Ranger: I've had an interest in SOF units and how special operations are conducted since around middle school. I have read numerous books about various units, the books about Rangers and LRRPs/LRPs really caught my attention. The high standards, culture, and intense mission set is why I want to be a Ranger.

Ranger Jim, first off apologies for late reply. I went to MEPS March 21st this year. My PULHES turned out 111101. I don't understand this, I see 20/20 I require no form of medication for my eyes and PRK doesn't require a waiver. I'm scheduled to report back to MEPS April 4th where I will be pulled aside just to have an eye refraction or check up. Again don't understand why I will post update following second MEPS visit.

As of today I am medically cleared to join the Army. If not today my PULHES will be updated tomorrow. In the meantime, I will endeavor to keep myself physically strong, mentally alert, and morally straight.

Great news Kenny! Don't give up on the contract you want, be patient, don't let them pressure you out of it. Many folks here have had to wait long periods of time... some not at all.

If you have any questions about 13F feel free to check some of the recent posts about it. There are a few folks here interested or that have joined as a 13F with Opt 40. If you do enlist as a 13F I will be sure to contact you or take some initiative and ping me. I believe I am the only active 13F on the forums although there are no doubt a few lurking.

What part of NC are you in?

Roger, Ranger Disinfertention. I have done my homework on 13f 11x and a few different MOS in regiment. After research I have decided I will take 11x or 13f, I completely understand the role of both MOS and will be happily committed to either one. This morning I went to the recruiter so he can call the ROC, neither one of the MOS I want with Option 40 was available. Hopefully one will come up soon but I will hold out. To answer your question Ranger Disinfertention I live in Wayne County, it's an hour east of Raleigh.
