68W Recruiting

Post by Tollhouse »

After somewhat extensive research on this forum and abroad, I have yet to find much helpful information.

I am a DEP'd 68W. I do not have a 4 option on my contract, and was told that the only way into the Rangers with a 68W was to be recruited out of AIT. However, I cannot find any information on the accuracy of this statement. So, my questions are:

Am I SOL on Ranger because I do not have Op 4 in my contract?
Is it possible to volunteer for Rangers during AIT, or do you have to be selected out of the herd of classmates?
Has anyone been through this situation that can offer some insight into what I can do to present myself as a shinier turd than my classmates?

As always, I apologize if this has been posted a dozen or two times already, and I missed it somehow. If there's any information I can offer to allow a more thorough response from one of you I would be more than happy to oblige.

Your initial entry is supposed to be an introduction. For that reason, I moved it here. You are not a Ranger Medic. If you want to earn a slot in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. We take pride in the men who pass through ArmyRanger.com on their life journey. Read The FAQs, as well as selected threads and stickies. The search feature located on the upper right of this page is your friend. You can use it to answer most of your quearies. Now tell us more about yourself.

My name is Aaron. Raised with a father in the Air Force since I was in diapers. I'm Male, 20, APFT score of 260, 97 on the ASVAB. Leaving for FT. Sill early January 2016. No college to speak of. Like I said, I've DEP'd in as a 68W, and at the same time there is nothing I want more than to serve in the Rangers. I love the idea of keeping guys in the fight, and there is no better idea than taking care of the best, while fighting along side them. Anything else I can offer?

Clearly whoever told you that has no idea what they are doing. No you are not totally out of luck. If you have a good recruiter start bothering them. My recruiter knew my phone number by heart because it showed up on called ID so often. He got at least 2 calls a day from me. Guess what?? I got an option 40 before I shipped. Opt 4 gets you to airborne, Opt 40 gets you a chance at RASP. After that it is on you. At AIT in my company there were NO Ranger or Airborne contracts handed out. No idea why and out company 1SG and CO were less than stellar. So if you didn't have it coming in you didn't get it. You need to get on your recruiter and get it done if at all possible.
