Introduction- Brandon

Post by Br0nco419 »

My name is Brandon, I am 19 years old. I am currently in the DEP as a 13foxtrot Option 40. My ship date is 20150519. My goal is to become a US Army Airborne Ranger. My whole life (since I can remember) I have wanted to be a Ranger. I got that drive to become one from my Uncle Mark. I admired my uncle a lot because he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment and then went to SF. He retired a Sergeant Major in the 7th special forces group. Being around that in the family had instilled that drive from a very young age.

After high school I enrolled in a community college, I decided I would get my associates in political science before enlisting. So I decided to go to the recruiter recently and enter the DEP. I was very adamant about what i wanted to do, and told them i would only accept an 11x Option 40. My recruiter knew i was serious and didn't try to push anything else on me, he told me we would get that contract. I brought my Uncle into the office to make sure I was not missing anything and he was telling me about some other MOS's i hadn't thought about, 35m and 13f were a few he mentioned that would be great to get in option 40. So I did some research on your forums and found 13f seemed to be the best choice. I went to take my asvab, scored well and then the recruiters looked ahead and found my 13f option 40 contract. They were extremely surprised that they found the exact mos option 40 I was looking for and said they even laughed about how unlikely it was that I would get that exact contract.

I have seen that the Rangers here offer a wealth of knowledge to those who seek it. I have been reading your forums for quite sometime and have read a lot of the advice you have gave to others. I figured it was my time to create an account and seek out more specified information that would help me reach my goal. With applying the knowledge you guys have I am sure that I will be successful throughout RASP.

I do have some challenges however, I have 6 months until I leave and I am not in the best of shape. I am currently 180lbs at 5'7". I would feel more comfortable back down at 150. I need to work on my PT. I just joined a crossfit gym today. I am confident that with following a strict workout regimen that I will be prepared by the time I leave for basic. I have been preparing academically, I have purchased the ranger hand book and a book called "Pass your Patrol".

I would appreciate any advice the Rangers have to offer. Thank you Rangers!

You should probably enjoy the time you have left as a civilian and not read too much into things. The Army will train you.

Your comment is an understatement. Add pull-ups to your workout, and never, never quit!

That confidence will only count if you dig in and actually do the hard work. You've seen your PT scores, you know your goal, now you need to take action to achieve this goal. Remember that discipline is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching you.
