I'd like to be part of a group where everyone is there because they chose to be there and were willing to do whatever it took to get there. I'd imagine there is a higher level of professionalism with less people complaining about how their recruiter screwed them over..
That, my friend, sums up what I think makes the Ranger Regiment stand out. Those who make it there for the most part want to be there, and those that don't want to aren't there for very long..

Shayde wrote:Hi, my name is Shayde. I'll be 21 next month. I've wanted to be a Ranger for as long as I can remember. I'm 5'8'' and weigh in at just around 160lb. I've been to MEPS and got the all clear. I've got an 11x option 40 contract. I am from Ohio. I'm also a firm believer that anything in life worth doing is worth overdoing. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to test myself and see what I'm made of. I'm always trying to better myself physically and mentally. So I knew that I wanted to be in a SOF and of all the Special Operations Forces I felt like the 75th Ranger Regiment is the best fit.

I recommend two weeks between PT tests. That produces a more accurate measure of your fitness. Never, never quit!

Shayde wrote:Here are my PT test scores:

Push ups: 60
Sit-ups: 65
2 mile: 12:58

I don't feel like this is an accurate representation of my actual performance though. I've been going pretty hard in the gym the last few days. I feel if I had done this rested I can do better. I subtracted 15 from both my push ups and sit ups to account for any done with bad form.

Additionally,

Pull ups: 10

I'll do the PT test again sometime next week and just do light cardio until then. I'm sure my scores will more accurately display my fitness level. I concur with Ranger Jim, wait at least 2 weeks before you do another test. And about the light cardio, at this point in the game the last thing you want to do is just do light cardio for a week or two. You need to PT until you puke and then PT some more. Pushups, situps, pullups, run. It is ok to rest 24 to 48 hours prior to an APFT but not a whole week or more. When you get into basic, AIT, OSUT, RASP or any other training they're not going to give you a lot of time down to do an APFT, train like you fight and you'll win every time. RLTW

All in all, you're in pretty good shape..... sit ups could use some improvement but not bad. Stay away from the gym! Large, pretty muscles will not get the job done, think runners or swimmers body. Work on endurance.

Oh yeah...... welcome here.

Shayde wrote:Roger, Ranger Slowpoke. Thank you for welcoming me. I've only been using the gym for the endurance building exercises that I use in preparation for my races and for access to the pool. My sit-ups shouldn't be too difficult to get up to standard as I'm starting a new ab program.
Shayde, you are running out of time. Never, never qui!
