Introduction

Post by Kemba415 »

First off I want to say thank you to all who make this website possible, I have been reading for many months and the amount of information I have learned from everyone is incredible.

I'm a 20 year old student from Marin County, California, right across the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco. I am currently attending a local junior college taking some general education classes. For a long time the thought of joining the military has always been in my head with the images of shooting guns and jumping out of airplanes sounding like a blast. Unfortunately it took to the back burner as I quickly learned that where I live, very few people join the military and that 99% of people seem to be on a very linear path of going to High school, college, and then go become a businessman. To make a long story short, I graduated high school with no idea what I wanted to do so I ended up attending junior college and dicking around home for awhile not really accomplishing anything and thought of joining the military again came to the fore-front of my mind.

I want to be an Army Ranger because I want to be with men that all want to be where there at and are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. It gets my blood pumping to think about being in a unit where people would give their lives for you because they know you would do the same for them and just giving 110% in everything they do knowing that failure is not an option. To imagine having such an extreme sense of camaraderie and having the confidence not just in yourself but in everyone around you, sounds like a great place to be.

I took a PT test yesterday and the results were:

Pushups- 63
Sit ups- 50
Two mile run- 13:36
Pull ups- 16

Thank you for your time,

I can identify with his comments. I graduated from HS in 1962. I attended some HS 5-year reunion, but never turned in a bio. A couple years ago we had the big 50th reunion. I wrote up a short bio of what I've accomplished, but after reading, it sounded like I was bragging. So, I never submitted it. A couple months later, my buddy Jack and his wife dropped by to visit. He had a copy of the hand-out from the reunion. After reading it, I made the right decision. Based on what everyone else accomplished -- it would have looked like I was bragging. Kemba, never, never quit!

Thank you Ranger Jim, you only solidify in my mind how much I would regret never serving in the military.

I visited the recruiter today and he gave me some paperwork to fill out and it sounds like I'll be going to MEPS for my physical in a couple of weeks.

Update:
Rangers,

I was at my recruiter's office looking up jobs and nothing I wanted was coming up so he called the ROC and I had the contract I wanted, 13f option 40 shipping out on 5/12/14. Unfortunately he didn't see my college enrollment letter stating I'm in school until the 23rd. My recruiter called back and there wasn't a 13f option 40 for any other time so I didn't reserve a job. My recruiter still wants to send me to MEPS this friday and makes it sound like no matter what he wants me to sign with a job. Hopefully when I go this friday there will be the contract I want. I will follow up with another update after my trip to MEPS.

Thank you Ranger Jim, I'm 99% sure I want 13f option 40 but 1% still thinks about 11x and 68w. Hopefully I qualify for airborne training at MEPS.

Thank you Ranger MadBSTRD, unfortunately I was unable to try and look up a job at MEPS. I had too much earwax in my ears and have to get an appointment with a specialist to get them cleaned out and then I can go back to MEPS. Fortunately I'm pretty sure everything else checked out good.
