Introduction- Gerrick

Post by gwill7 »

Rangers,

My name is Gerrick, I am 19 years of age and an aspiring Ranger. After lurking on the site for a few days and indulging in all the info I could find I figured it was time to go ahead and sign up. Before I get started I'd like to say thank you to all Rangers who have previously served and to those whom are serving now. Thank you for your service and for paving the way for future Rangers.

I have been thinking about joining the military for the better part of a year, and after many months of research and deciding which branch I would like join I finally decided that I wanted to join the Army and become an Airborne Ranger. I have three grandfathers who served in the Army and my stepfather served in the Air Force. One of my grandfathers was a CSM for the 101st, another who was a 1SG in the 101st and another who was a CWO and flew Littlebirds for the 160th, my stepfather was a PJ for the 38th Rescue Squadron. I have always been interested in the military because I have always been around it, whether it was touring the museum at Ft. Campbell or it was checking out the history of PJ's at the 38th Rescue Squadron. Being able to experience these things made me realize that I wanted to serve as well.

I want to become a Ranger for the simple fact that I want to be apart of an elite team. I want to work alongside highly competent and highly motivated men. I want to be apart of something bigger than myself. I want the brotherhood. I am not alright with being ordinary, and that is why I chose to pursue this challenging yet rewarding lifestyle. I am currently working with my recruiter to get an Opt. 40 contract. I have made it known to him that I will not sign unless I get the Opt. 40 in writing.

I am going on my second week of the 12 week RASP Prep program. I am doing this program to ensure that I am best prepared for not only RASP but OSUT as well.
Current PT numbers:
Push-ups: 70
Sit-ups: 67
Pull-ups: 15
2 mile run: 13:56

These aren't the best of numbers, but I am working hard everyday to better all of them!

Respectfully,
Gerrick

Ranger Jim,

I know for a fact I want to be a Ranger. I am currently in the final stages of enlisting, I am just waiting on a few things to be done. The doctors at MEPs are currently reviewing my medical documents before they give me the ok to be seen by them. I had arthroscopic hip surgery last July so that is the only thing that is holding up the process right now.

Ranger Jim,

I intend on going 11B along with the option 40. Also, I am going to meps on Tuesday for my physical. I'm not taking the oath yet because I have to go see a hip specialist before that (just a safety precaution the doctors at meps are taking). I hope to enlist within the next month. I will make sure to follow up on everything.
