Introduction- Devon

Post by devon.223 »

Hello Rangers,

My name is Devon I am 18 right now and I just enlisted with an 11x with option 40. I live in College Station, TX. It has been my dream to become a Ranger sense I was 11 years old. I tried to enlist with a Ranger contract when I was 17 but my parents were reluctant to sign for me. I have been reading the FAQ's and have gotten a great amount of help from the answers, but I felt like it was time for me to introduce myself.

I would also like to thank everyone of the Rangers for their selfless devotion and sacrifice to our country.

Respectfully, Devon.

Welcome. Who graded your form on this PT test? Unless you're an absolute animal I suspect those numbers will be much lower when graded properly.

Regardless, drive on, listen to the advice given and get at it.

Ranger Cams, the PT test was graded by a fellow recruit here in my town. We because friends at MEPS and have been training ever sense. If you would prefer I can do another PT test and have it graded by my recruiter directly. Also I am sorry it took me so long to respond I have been using most of my time to read the "five mentees report here" thread.

Respectfully, Devon.

No apologies needed, your reply was timely enough.

It's good that you're already training with a fellow recruit, but it would only benefit you both to have someone with a solid background of taking and grading PT tests with knowledge of the standards. It'll give you a more solid idea of what needs improvement.

True dat. Most civilians don't realize there is a standard for for doing push-ups(and pull-ups) , and that most people do them incorrectly. There is a reason for it. It requires much more endurance and strength to do them properly. When done right, it is actually a really good total body exercise, and works your core well. I'd wager that score drops almost by a third, but it is still a good start.

When I did my pt tests as a DEP, my recruiter counted in the 90s, even over 100 on one. Got to OSUT and my first PT test, I got like 56 counted of my effort. Be as strict as possible on that form (Breaking the plane, entire body moving as single unit and exaggerate locking out your arms as you come up). Hell I would just ensure your chest touches the ground every rep and look straight forward.
