Introduction - Calvin

Post by Calvin »

Hi Rangers!

I am a 17 year old senior in high school and I reside in Colorado Springs, CO. Ever since I looked into the Army and saw what a Ranger was I've always been very interested. I have watched just about any video on YouTube about Rangers and have looked up anything I could about them.(Which is how I found this website) I have been talking to a recruiter recently. I currently have scheduled some paperwork with him on the 6th. My ASVAB will be taken on the 10th. I took a practice test at my recruiter's office and scored an 86 and I'm trying to beat that. Finally, I have the option to swear in on the 11th. Although I have the option, I am not quite sure that they have any 11x option 40's available. If this is the case, I am prepared to wait for a slot to open.

Thanks!

Calvin, welcome to the site. Have your recruiter look at the RECSTA date 20140922 for 11X Option 40. I know for a fact that we had some Option 40 slots on that date for high school seniors. Good Luck and if you have any recruiting questions or issues please let me know.

Thank you all for the responses.
Perry, I will be sure to ask my recruiter about an option 40 on that date.

Ranger Jim, I'll be sure to conduct that self-assessment. I'll probably end up doing it on Saturday. It's going to be a tough 2 miles though because I have just recently started running and it is negative degrees in Colorado currently.

Bronco, it seems you have deleted you PM before I could read it. I would appreciate if you re-sent it because I'm curious as to what it said.

Thanks again to all of you.

Young man, I admire your ambition, BUT....you better face it now. In the Ranger community, excuses do not cut it. You best steel yourself to run rain, shine, snow, wet, dry, hot, cold, whatever. You may think us severe, but along the path to the Regiment, this is the nicest anyone will be to you. Seven times seven, never ever quit.

Thank you for the welcome, Ranger Charlie.

Roger that, Ranger Lefty. This 2-mile run should feel like nothing compared to what I will encounter in the future.

Also, I talked to my recruiter today and they said they wouldn't go forward with any paper work until an 11x option 40 opens up. Hopefully, that is soon.

OK Rangers, I've taken my mock PT test.
PUSH - 73
SU - 60
PULL - 8
Run - 14:36

I have one question. When I do situps, sometimes I will gag over and over again. Is this just because I need to strengthen my core? Also, I started the APFT Improvement program posted by Ranger Silverback yesterday.

You have now established a PT baseline that you can measure your progress. Ensure that you use the proper form in each exercise. Your program choice is a good one. BTW, there is never a "mock" PT test. Never, never quit!

I have watched the RASP video, Ranger Jim. In fact, I've even seen it before you posted it but I watched it again because I just can't get enough of anything military related, let alone Ranger related things.
