Intro-Devin16

Post by devin16 »

Hello Rangers, first things first I would like to thank all military veterans and/or active duty for their service.

My name is Devin.I am 16 years old,and a junior in high school . I play baseball and weight lift. Several colleges have shown interest in me but I recently told my parents that I will not be going to college for baseball. My father was very shocked because he believes I have a high potential to play college baseball at a Division 1 level. What I really want to do is enlist with a 11x Option 40 contract. I first showed interest in joining the military from a very young age. The reason is simple. Because I want to serve my country. I was raised in New York. I was on Staten Island when 9/11 happened. My mother and father were NYPD when the attack happened. I don't remember much as I was only 2 years of age , but I do remember that my parents were very distraught. My oldest brother was 16 at the time. He enlisted as soon as he could as did my other brother who is currently still active duty. They both enlisted in the army. I don't know what my oldest brothers MOS was but I know he did several tours in Iraq and several in Afghanistan. He was in for 8 years. And is now doing military contracting. I knew I wanted to join the military and became serious about it when I started high school. I became researching and reading books and memoirs of veterans. I cam upon this website almost 2 years ago and have been lurking and reading everything I possibly could. This is what I want to do. I want to be apart of something greater. And Army Rangers have been around since well before the Revolutionary War and have played a major role in the conflicts in the past years. With that being said I would like to say that I am highly motivated and am planning to enlist and join the DEP the day I start senior year. This is about a year away but I believe it is never to early to start preparing.
I also have self-administered a PT test. These are my results.
Push-ups - 58
Sit ups - 61
2 mile run time - 14:06
I am aware i have alot to work on. This is why I have started preparing now. Again thank you for your time and service Rangers.

Welcome to the site Devin. I was impressed with you intro and your motivation to want to be one of the best. Your PT results need work and you need to add pull-ups to your APFT, but you have plenty of time if you start to prepare yourself right now. Give everything you've got, every time you give and never, ever quit! RLTW

Rangers, I went ahead and did my pullups. I got 11. My scores will improve drastically because school starts in 2 days and I have weight training every day.

Devin, If you want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. We take pride in the fine young men who pass through armyranger.com in their life journey. Please begin by reading the FAQs as well as selected threads and stickies. Most questions you might have are already addressed. The search feature, located on the top right of this page is your friend. Weight training is good, but don't neglect the four events (PU, SU, Pull-ups, and 2 mile run). Never, never quit!

Devlin anytime you are conducting AFPT, please do it in this order: PU: 2 minutes; SU: 2 minutes; 2-mile run. Then after those three events are complete, do your Pull-ups. No more than 5 minutes between events. This is how you will do it in OSUT and in your unit. As with many of the things we do, do it correctly. Never, never quit!

Please post a PT score every 2 - 3 weeks. You need that interval to see your improvement. Never, never quit!

Rangers I have some bad news. I was playing baseball and got hit in my hand. It swelled up and I decided to go get a xray and it is broken. My scaphoid bone. I have to see a specialist in a few days too see if I need pins or surgery. This bone can lead to permanent damage so I want to get it taken care of.

So what did the doctor say? Will you require pins? Regardless, ensure you give yourself plenty of time to heal properly. Never, never quit!

Rangers ,I won't need pins, which is good. I should be good to go in about 3 weeks. I will stay on my situps and run times until then.
