Urum, my best advice to you is......take a deep breath and slow down a little so you can concentrate. Perhaps it would be better to wait until those abysmal PT scores rise to where they should be to get too serious about leaving. WHOA....SLOW DOWN....I was 17 a looooong time ago but I remember what it's like. A major sign of maturity is patience. Don't go charging off half-cocked with PT scores like yours and expect to do anything but fall on your face.

Understand something young man, becoming a Ranger Medic is arguably the hardest path into the Regiment. Once you complete Basic, AIT, Airborne, RASP, you then have PreSOCM and SOCM to pass which at the moment is approaching a 60% pass rate or so. This will make your time till you get to regiment about 18-24 months depending on how long you get held over between schools. You need to get your PT scores up to even have a hope. You need to speak to your parents with some maturity so they will take you seriously, the same way that you need to become more mature on here. You have time do not rush as has already been said. Take your time and get the 68W opt 40 contract. It is a lot of work. You need to be ready for it.

Rangers,
Thank You all for your responses. I have thought about what all of you have said for the past week and have taken it to heart. I've realized that I've already waited this long for this and it won't hurt me to wait a little longer. The extra time will only allow me to improve greatly on my atrocious PT scores and to learn more about Rangers and specifically the Ranger Medic. I realize my PT scores suck but I have to start somewhere. So again Thank you to all the Rangers who responded and opened my eyes.
Ranger Jim,
I sat down with the recruiter and both my parents last week. I feel it went good and both of my parents are much more comfortable with the overall process and may sign for me in the near future. As for the 68W option 40 contract, he said he's never seen one before. However, from reading the post on this forum I know they're out there. He said with my ASVAB score(84,GT 121) that I can get it as long as it's in the system. He asked me about an option 4 with a 68W and I politely said no. I'd rather have it in my contract than rolling the dice of getting picked later on.
Sincerely,
John

John,

I can tell you that those contracts do exist. I had one even as an old man coming in which apparently is a lot more difficult. I am not an expert in the land of recruiting so I am not sure. However, if your parents will sign for you that still gives you the advantage of time. Don't be in a rush. If that is what you want then wait for it. Yes your GT score is fine so you have that going for you. What do you want to know about being a Ranger Medic? Make sure you look things up first and then ask. If you have specific questions you can PM me.

Ranger Jim,
I'm still currently working with my recruiter on locking up a contract. My goal is to enlist around the August-September time frame but given my unwillingness to settle for another job or option I am willing to wait. I'll be sitting down with my recruiter in the coming weeks to see what is available. Since my last post I have been cleared from my foot injury and have begun PT again.

That's good news. In about two weeks self administer a PT test (include pull-ups) and post it on this thread. Never, never quit!

Ranger Jim,
Do the option 40's include 68w as well? I went ahead and called my recruiter and left a message. Just wanted to make sure.

If Jim says so, do it, then do it and answer respectfully. Roger, Ranger Jim.
I read what Jim read THAT 158 Opt 40 opened up. Those that wait for confirmation don't get it.

Grim666 already told you that they are available. Have you been to MEPS and met a guidance counselor?
