There is an Achilles bursa on either side of the heel where the tendon attaches and it sucks if it becomes inflamed. I don't have a callous, but one of the bursa is now a hard lump.

That area of my foot is one that always had/has a callous. However, it was always irritated and never built up like other areas. I used to have blisters form with callouses overtop. When the blister broke, it was raw skin. Rinse, repeat.

Do you get them from running shoes or boots?
