On my way to Afghanistan there was a private in our company that was generally squared away. He just talked too much about how he was going to do this and that under fire.

Then we had another soldier who was a slob and a general turd.

We got ambushed one day and the squared away troop cowered in the vehicle refusing to stand up and fight...the "turd" not only fought, but climbed over the gunner shield while under fire and moving to file a burr off the upper receiver of his "ma deuce" with a gerber to put it back in operation after it was hit with a round behind the charging handle. I put him in for a BS as I was the TC of the vehicle behind him and witnessed it.

You just never know.
