New Ranger Parent

Post by rsmittyb »

I'm a proud parent of a new 11B Infantryman and potential future Army Ranger. I'm US Army veteran myself, (although not a Ranger). I just attended my son's turning blue ceremony (8 Oct 15) and graduation at Ft. Benning (9 Oct 15) from F 2-19. My son is now off to Airborne School per his enlistment contract. My son aspires to become a Ranger and spoke with the Ranger liaison during OSUT (I have his name), who told him he was "tracking that he is going" (RASP) and to touch base with him again towards the end of Airborne school. Not sure if this sounds promising or not... would love to hear from the active or veteran Rangers out there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Smitty

Welcome. Sounds like you and your son are doing what needs to be done to earn a RASP opportunity. Ranger Fuego is a good dude.

Welcome to ArmyRanger.com rsmittyb. Tell your son the secret to passing RASP is by not quitting.

Welcome to the site Smitty. Good to see you on here.

For your son, I would recommend that if his class hasn't been visited by his Regimental Liaison by the middle of Tower Week, he should actively seek that NCO out. Granted, we will be identified as a snowflake, but that is far better than to get placed on worldwide.

Also, he needs to really focus on his PT. Airborne school standards are NOT RASP 1 standards. Too many times, you see these young Hooahs slacking off with the 9 minute miles and whatnot or chasing Airborne ass because it's their first gender integrated school. Then they wonder why they cant run Cardiac hill, or just won't make it out of Cole Range alive.

Lastly, Ranger Steadfast is correct. Your son needs to learn to never, ever, quit. Period. Surrender is not a Ranger word.

Welcome to the site Smitty, thanks for raising such a fine young man. Pass this advice onto him, 'Give everything you've got, every time you give and never, ever quit'. If he follows this advice he will make it through RASP and into Regiment. Remember, the hard part starts when he gets to Regiment. Keep us updated and tell him he can join the site, the information here is invaluable. RLTW
