Introduction

Post by airbornepunk »

Good afternoon everyone,
I am SPC J, I enlisted July 7 2010 as a 35P. After graduating DLI in Dari language and AIT and Jump school, I was stationed in Ft. Campbell as a SOT-A. I've been to Jordan and Afghanistan in support of an ODA. I'm back at DLI qualifying for another language, as such I'm in TRADOC limbo and I haven't been put on orders. I am supposed to talk to my branch manager soon regarding my next assignment. I wanted to join this forum to get insight into life in the Regiment.

Took the liberty to edit.

Welcome, If you are interested in earning a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came t the right site. We take a lot of pride in the fine young Rangers who pass through armyranger.com on their life journey. Begin with the link I provided and realize that you will have to pass RASP. There are a number of serving Rangers who are more up to date in the day to day life in the regiment. Please tell us more about yourself: Are you in superb physical shape? What language are you currently learning? Why do you want to be a Ranger?

Thank you very much. As far as physical shape, I'm in really good shape and I excell in all areas except for running. To remedy this, I have signed up for half marathons and other races that will take place here in a couple of months. I'm not terrible, but I know I can improve. I am currently learning Farsi which is not a huge jump after learning Dari (practically the same thing!). I want to be a Ranger because I know I want to undergo the challenge of being in an environment that demands the best of me and be surrounded by soldiers just as motivated. It's a huge help to my career to be in an elite unit. I know of a few friends of mine who are there right now and they tell me it's very worth it.

My most recent APFT is 272. 100 on PU, 100 SU, 15:30 2-mile run, I can do about 12-15 pull ups in a row and I haven't done a 5- mile run yet but as soon I get the results I will update.

Welcome to the site. If you haven't done so already I would recommend you read the thread in the physical fitness forum on APFT improvement. There's a really good running improvement program on there. Your PT looks pretty good except for you run, as you stated. With a little focus you should have that down in no time. RLTW

They are also 35P. My former NCOIC was also in the Regiment for some years. Last I spoke to him he was thrilled to learn that I am wanting to join but told me up front that being in the Regiment is tough!
I have checked out the posts on improving running scores. I have until early next year before I even get to attend RASP so I have that time to work diligently to follow some of those programs, bring my run-time down and improve my ruck marching.

You mentioned an OEF tour, did you earn a CAB?

Yes sir I have. Along with manning the secret squirrel equipment I was also the .50 cal and MK19 gunner. I was taught well by the Bravo on the weapon systems so as the time came when I had to use it (we got into a nasty ambush) we all got away.

Besides TDYs on specific equipment i have also been through SERE-C, one of the best schools that I will never want to go back to.

Having a CAB will be helpful when you are in RASP.
