Intro 3-69

Post by jveitch »

Greetings,
Graduated from Ranger School 3-69 (start about Aug 1968). The class was mostly made up of West Point Engineer, Signal and Intel graduates fresh out of West Point. I was a two year draftee, went NCOC, Ranger, Airborne and got sent back to Dahlonega (Darby) as an instructor. I was an instructor at Darby thru the winter of 68-69 then sent to DMZ in Korea (B co. 2/31, 7th Div). Post Army I went back to Smokejumping out of Missoula and Fairbanks (amongst other things.)
Looking forward to hearing about other 3-69 Rangers and Darby instructors when I was there.

There are a couple other "shake and bake" alumni on the board. Welcome. Tell us more about yourself.

Thanks for the greetings.
I've lurked on this forum, off and on, for a while. Finally decided to come out of the bushes. Mainly I'm interested in finding out what became of some of the people I trained and worked with. Regretfully my memory is not as good as it should be, especially concerning names. Is there any way to track down old USMA grads? Having gone thru Ranger School with them I made friends with a few.
I'd be happy to offer any information on Dahlonega during the time I was there as a LI, if I can. I was always amazed I was sent to the Ranger command after completing Airborne school. Myself, my Ranger buddy and three other shake'n bakes were sent to Dahlonega as instructors. For sure we "knew" we were headed for Vietnam after Airborne...but that's the Army for you.
There's a lot more to my story but I'll leave that for some other time, perhaps.

Thanks for the tip. I'm now signed up there. I do remember a couple names listed there but there are obviously lots missing.
