Intro - Renman59

Post by Renman59 »

Enlisted 7/24/83 Active US Army, Basic and AIT - Ft. Benning D-10-2 ITB Harmony Church. Mos 11H1E9. Top Gunner ITV. Direct assignment to Ft. Ord, CA 7th ID. CSC 3/32 INF Bulldogs AT Platoon. HHC 4/21 INF Gimlets AT Platoon. Ranger School Class
11-84 Pegasus Co. Stabilized at Ft.Ord due to graduating Ranger School. Final Unit HHC 3/17. Final MOS 11H2G. ETS 7/24/87.
I had more fun after graduating Ranger School, range duty with the AT Platoon on FTX's sucked.
The Scout Platoon was a hell of a lot more fun.
I taught 2 classes of 7th ID's School of the Bayonet(7th ID's RIP). Team Spirit 85 and 87 were a blast.

Though a leg I am proud to be considered a Brother.

If you mean for Just Cause, he ETSed in 1987.
No, I mean did you go to JOTC? A lot of units came down from the light units to train. Later, we often had the 9th INF (7ID) deploy in the lead-up to Just Cause.

Two weeks after returning from Ranger School my unit 4/21INF went to JOTC. I wanted to go but 1SG said I had to stay (a wife and 3 kids). I couldn't go and 4/21 INF 3rd BDE never went there again while I was assigned to them.
From what I remember when 3 Battallions of the 9th INF were finally at Ft. Ord (1st BDE), it seemed they were always going places.

Manchu V, never mind, I just saw your stats.
I was kind of bummed when they closed Ord. U.C. of Monterey Bay has most of the real estate now. The old officers housing and senior NCO housing is used for DLI and Naval Post Graduate Institute. Our old barracks were still there on the hill last time I was there in 2006. Going out there the end of May for my son's graduation from Salinas High.
