WPN's Squad 1st PLT, Charlie Company, 2/75 77-80

Post by LTCdad59 »

Kirk S. here .... served in WPN's Squad, 1st Platoon, Charlie 2/75 from 77-80.... Matton was my first PSG then Guthrie and finally Walter ...... McDermott trained me and when he ETS'd I made his 60 my own  , worked with Mcgahee, Place, Fields, Wertz, Allen, Stello, Knight, Shughart and Webb. Ranger class 1-79 and eventually became the Senior Company Machine Gunner. A couple of EDRE's and Panama in 79 (Pete Keefer death march :) ), Artic training in Minnesota in 80....C 141 blast in minus 40 weather (no fun) :( CO's were Jackson, Wagner, Holmes and Toney ...BN CDR's Downing (RIP) and Powell (RIP).

ETS'd in 80 and went to college then OCS, commissioned as FA in 88...retired in 2007 after commanding 2-77 Field Artillery (Steel Warriors) in OIF 05-07. Desert Storm with 82d in 1991 (1/319th AFAR)....Jumpmaster 89 Ft. Bragg with SFC McCarty (Later SMA) who I think was in 3d Platoon C, 2/75 77-80. Bosnia-Herzigovina as Battery CDR (155mm) 1st Armored Divsion (IFOR) crossing the frozen Sava in Jan 96.

Retired in 2007 and have been working in Afghanistan training Police, Army (ANA) and Poppy Eradication...also Iraq training Iraqi Artillery Officers (2012)......as of this post still in Afghanistan.

Getting tired at 54 ! .... but still party HARD in Philippines on occasion....Any one else out there from the Company during that time please sound off.

The way I became a Ranger and have earned the small amount of success I have had in life has been mostly due to one quality - determination. Lefty.

PFC S... took my beloved M60 and had your way with her! I knew I trained you well! :) Grew up to be an Officer to. Hard to believe it has been so long. Truly glad you are well and most important still kicking.
Buzz called me last night so I had to get on line to get you squared away here. I will do some looking to see if a packet has been sent to you yet and if not I will get on it. Expect a PM. FYI I'm living in an Amish farm house Off-Grid so it might take a bit but I'm on it. Good to here from you Kirk. I think I have a picture of you and the rest of the squad on top of a mountain in the cascades... have to look.

I would say yes but I am waiting for his packet and to chat with him.

Seen too many get burned here, so I am sticking strictly to the SOP!
