CRKT Knives

Post by DRM »

Ranger's,

I'm looking into a new knife that will be functional for both survival and general use purposes. I used to own a Gerber folding knife, but gave it away to a scout in my old troop. I've been heavily considering CRKT knives as they look to be very high quality and dependable.

My question is, do you recommend CRKT knives? If so, which model would best suit my purposes? If you don't recommend them, what knife would you recommend?

Thank you,

I have one somewhere, I thought they would be a decent blade, after buying one I didn’t like it and have never carried the thing. I would probably look at the US made Benchmade knives right now for a lower end knife.

just depends on how much you want to spend. I haven’t bought a folder in several years now because I spent money on a good one.

I picked up one the other day at the PX since I lost my knife. Good knife, decent price. I quit buying really pricey knifes a long time ago since they tend to get lost.

I've been carring the CRKT that I found at Talladega a couple of years ago, and I have no complaints. It opens and cuts stuff like it's supposed too.

I like mine. Been carrying mine for daily use for about four years now. I really need to sharpen it...

I love my CRKT M16-14ZSF

It has an extra Safety lever not pictured. You get used to it when opening it, you won't even notice it when you get proficient with it. Plus it's just an extra safety that won't let it close on your hand. I have had mine for a year and it hasn't loosened up at all. And I mean at all  . Smooth as butter and Very Sharp. And no it's not wood, it's a polymer and very tough. I think it was meant to look like wood though. I will get a pic of the Safety up in a bit. Also you can put the belt clip on any side top or bottom you want, see the 3 holes....more pics inbound....

Ranger RLTW375, that's actually the knife I was looking at. Now that I know someone has had a good experience with it, I'll look into it more and see if I can use one before I buy it.

Ranger Horned Toad, I'm taking a trip to a local knife dealer sometime this week and I'll look at some Benchmade folder's. Since I'm not an authorized LEO or Military, I might have trouble getting the knife that's caught my eye. However, I'm still going to look into their products.

Thank you for all of your input, Ranger's.

Note that I believe all CRKT knives are sharpened only on one side of the blade... (the two that I have are both like that).

While that may not be an issue, remember that blades with this configuration will not whittle well left-handed... the tapered side of the blade is against the material being cut, sort of like trying to work a chisel upside down.

I've got a monster-big desert-colored folder I don't carry at all... (40 bucks and too big in the pocked for comfort), but I carry my tiny little K.I.S.S. all the time... great knife to cut string and little shit.

X2!

The wife got me this knife last year and it's now my daily carry. Super sharp and always quick to open.

I have lost one of the little screws that keeps the clip on though! :(

I tend to think the opposite, good money is never wasted on good tools.
The first pic below is my wife using my expensive folder to pry a rock out of a horses shoe. It was all I had on me at the moment.

The second pic is the damage to the knife; I think she got the tip under the rim of the shoe. Little bit of time on a stone and it was fine. I still carry this knife everyday.

fucking pics
