SF10 chute

Post by Fishboy »

Anyone jumped the new SF10 chute yet.
I have 3 jumps tomorrow in this chute.
From what I saw in the simulator and after hearing the specs on this chute, I am not excited to say the least.
Any thoughts?

It is a round chute, has I think, 6 slits for brakes and a forward thrust of 10 knots!
To certify on it you jump from 2500 AGL, 2000 AGL, and then 1500 AGL.
Definately have to land it headed into the wind.

As far as I know, the SF10 (MC-6) is grounded from further airborne operations unitl further notice due to, from what I understand, problems with the connectors. They have a tendecy to come undone in mid-air as you are bicycling to undo riser twists. You might want to check on exactly what chute you are using.

I heard that same thing, I believe that it has been corrected.
I am sure that with the bad rap that this chute has here at 7th Group, someone would have exsposed that problem and got the jump shit-canned.
We are jumping from a Casa 212 and so far I have never had twist, it is a pretty forgiving exit, kinda hard to screw-up but I am sure it can be done.

I am thankfull that only 5 jumpers will be exiting per pass, I am concerned with alot of inexperienced jumpers with steering capabilities in the air at once.

1st group isn't jumping the SF10 right now, but when they were, most of the SF10 jumps were with C17's. At least the faggot HHC jumps I keep getting put on are C17's. Who knows. I never got to jump it because one jump with it got canned for weather and the next jump was with I corps' using a -1C. I've heard mix reviews on it. Just don't take past the hold postition and be very careful when turning. Good luck.

You can actually "fly" backwards with it... one thing I find dangerous, is that it won't automatically "run" with the wind. You have to actually figure that out, and turn into it.

I jumped the SF10 and got about 8 or 9 jumps with the SF10. Rate of descent is like 14 ft per second. Last jump with the SF10 was back in March at Carson and it was nice landing in snow!! Jumping CE at night rocks with the SF10A.

BUMP

After 4 weather calls over the past months, I jumped the chute 3 times today.
Honestly, other than turning alot faster I didn't find it much diferent than a MC-1D.

What I did learn though....................

a 41 year old man should not jump 3 static line jumps in alittle under 3 hours in one day!
Thank GRITS for my superb physical condition and positive mental attitude!
