Ranger Parent Introduction

Post by Robert K. Barr »

I am really glad to be able to use the site. My son, is a Ranger and is completing his fourth tour overseas. He is due to get out of the army early this next year. I am wondering/worrying over the possibility that "stop gap" measures will be utilized to keep him in the service after the governments annoucements of additional troops for Afghanistan. He really wants to go back to school to get his Master's Degree. Does anyone know if this is a real possibility?

There is currently no "stop loss" in effect. Matter of fact, starting shortly, (prior to end of year) payments are going out to those that were ivoluntarily stopped from End Term Service (ETS) from all of the services. He should be good to go. of course that could all change tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

First, thanks for reply.
Second, I can't tell you how proud I am of all our service members but especially the Rangers. My son wanted to be a ranger since he was old enough to get a Rambo Big Wheel. Wow, dating myself.
He's a straight up, get it done kind of guy. He had a goal and accomplished it with my great admiration.
I keep all of the Ranger's in my thoughts and prayers for I know they're the ones in the crap most of the time. I prayer for all their safety and know their courage, training and that of their peers is what get's them through.

He has a degree in engineering, interned at NASA, and has been in the army for the last four years.
His plans are to attend one of five or six colleges he has applied to get his master's degree.
He has been successful in everything he has attempted and I'm very proud of him.

Way to go USAF! I consult with major universities, let me know which ones he's considering, I may have some info about the school's administration, no guarantees though.

Best Regards - Capt Ret. USAF (air guard actually, but who's counting!)
