Welcome Dad.

Get him off to the side and tell him...very lovingly....that if he quits, you're going to fuck him up soooo bad that his Mother won't recgnize him.

That should do the trick! :D

Welcome here, Dad. Always glad to have a parent around.

I suspect your son will be better served by coming here himself as the details of what he endeavors to be are in the search engine. Quite an extensive data base of FAQ's, comments, and details from those who have been there and done that.

You are correct. It's ALL up to him. While many do attempt this particular "skill", the numbers are incredibly low for a complete success. That being RIP, then one of the Regimental Units, ect.....But, Dad, if he does achieve it...you havent SEEN proud yet!

I would also tell you that if he doesnt make it, he has still stepped to the line, still volunteered to "defend the empire", and still chosen an honorable profession as well as a damned difficult path. IN either count, hats off to you for raising the young warrior and good luck.

Welcome to the site.

The fact that your son voluteered during these trying times speaks volumes, and reflects great credit on you and your wife for imbueing him with the character to stand up and be counted.

Of course you are correct it is all up to him in the end......but it helps to have a good family support system.

Welcome. Post little, read alot. Use the search button, it is your best friend here. I'm sure one of the other parents will be along shortly to help you.
As for being a Ranger parent, you are not yet, long way to go.
Tread carefully around here, everyone is held to the same standard, parent or not.
Enjoy, I hope your son completes his mission.

It is his opportunity. Not yours. While it is important that you support him, the ultimate success or failure is his and his alone.

Welcome to the site. Best of luck to your Warrior. Like Puck said, for him to stand up and be counted during a time when people would rather sit and hope it all goes away, is a credit to you as a parent. Be a rock for him and when he gets to RIP and wants to quit (because it's going to suck) you take that rock and beat him over the head with it. The easiest day was yesterday.

He answered: "The terrain was beginning to constrict and our hit time was coming close. So I put us in a Ranger file."

It's often asked where we get the young men who volunteer to step up to the challenge. You know the answer.

Your son can only do this on his own and the Army has an exacting system to keep all but the most determined from becoming a Ranger. Notice I did not say the "best," but the "most determined."

I've seen college football stars and graduates of West Point that didn't make it. They were the best, but not the most determined.

In 1967, my Dad said to me, "Never quit and give 'em hell." You'd be well to do the same.

It's not a school science fair project, a book report, or anything else you can help him with - even if you were a Ranger.

Just be proud of the fact he's trying, you've earned that.
