New Ranger hopeful
Hello all Rangers and soldiers my name is Phil, I'm from upstate NY, I'm a junior in highschool, and I just turned 17. I'm hoping to secure an 11x/OPT40/Airborne contract by the beginning of the next school year (early September), remain in the DEP all through my senior year, then ship out once I graduate. I believe that joining your site will make me more motivated as I now have standards to uphold. I've wanted to join the military since 7th grade. I've wanted to join the Rangers since I was in 8th grade and I saw the Best Ranger competition. I remember the narrator saying something about a guest Marine participating and my stupid self was like "Oh my god a Marine! He's gonna dust all these guys!" As I recall one of the events was running across a long-ass log above some water, it had a sign with the Ranger Tab hanging off the bottom of it, and some Ranger ran straight across it and jumped off the end and I was like "wow he's good" then the Marine tried to run across it and fell off. Later in the competition I believe he dropped out (all this is hazy, I may be completely incorrect). Anyways, I was so amazed that I went and searched for Army Rangers and found their official page on the Army website. I read the physical requirements and was blown away, I decided I could never be a Ranger, but I wanted to be one anyways. After some working out and getting in shape just for the sake of getting in shape, I've realized it's not so impossible anymore and I'm working towards it everyday.
My physical statistics are dismal and are as follows:
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 150lbs
Pushups in 2 minutes: 60
Situps in 2 minutes: 60 (with nobody holding my ankles)
Pullups: 2
2 mile run time: 15 minutes
My goal is to be at 140lbs, 65 pushups, 65 situps, 3 pullups and a 13:30 minute 2 mile run by February 15.
Thank you for your selfless service and dedication.

First of all welcome to the site Phil. If I may I'd like to add something.
I stand about 5 inches taller than you and only weigh about 15 pounds more. So you can imagine the scrawny image I portray. Taking 2 minutes off of your run time will be an easy task as long as you work at it, the same with your sit ups. IMO, in the end it doesn't matter what your body can handle anyway, it's what you can mentally handle. You don't always have to be the strongest guy, as long as you are the strongest mentally.
Good luck, read until your eyes bleed, and again welcome to the site.

Welcome. If you put your heart and mind in it you never know.
Who dares wins is a motto that has been around a long time although not a Ranger motto (British SAS, Greek SF) it means alot.
I joined the Army in 1980 at 5' 7 1/2'' weighing 143 Lbs. I maxed every PT test with the 2 mile run at 11:30.
Your size means nothing. Is your heart whilling?

Welcome, Phil, you have only one opportunity to make a good initial impression and you succeeded. Read, study all the FAQs, and think before you hit the send button. Between today and next year you can get your weight down, learn a lot and improve your PT scores. Never, never quit!!!
