1911 A1 Sprinfield Arms .45...

Post by tsod275 »

Anyone own or tried out the new 1911 A1 Sprinfield Arms .45's? I am looking at getting one of those that is a milspec version. Wood grips, lanyard, etc., etc. Would like some input from any of you fella that have tried one of them out. The one I am looking at is factory new and only $389.00.

For that price you can upgrade whatever you dont like and still keep the price down. Is it to be your one gun or do you just want one, if just your one gun I think I would save up for a Les Bear or something similiar.

Ranger tsod275:

The Mil-Specs by Springfield are very basic pistols. If your object is to collect it, its fine as is. If you plan on doing things like replacing the sights, its best to get a model thats already got dovetailed front cut, and a Novak-style cut for the rear.

I personally would take a Mil-Spec and have a beavertail added to it, and a magwell blended in, and have the front strap checkered. And I would get it in stainless so you don't have to refinish it if you have any mods done to it. Other things I would do, depending on its purpose, would be a dovetailed front sight, and a McCormick or Novak rear sight (or BoMar adjustable if it was a competition gun). You'll need the extractor tuned, the ejection port flared and lowered, and get an extended ejector.

If it was something I was going to rely on as a carry piece, it would be a Glock.

Gunsmithing a 1911 isn't cheap. You could take your bargain-basement Mil-Spec and sink a $1000 into it really quick.

I don't have the Mil-Spec, but I have one of their "loaded" models. So far, I really like it. The only bad thing I can say about it was that after only one match, one of the tridium inserts fell out of the front sight. But looks, function, accuaracy, and reliability are all great.

My stepdad just got one. I haven't got to play with it yet though.

I've got a loaded too. I like it alot, but about 200 rds in, the front sight set screw was about half out, retorqued it, and it's been fine since. really nice shooter.

Awsome weapon. I owned and XD40 Tactical prior to purchasing this weapon. I loved the way it handled and shot. The down side was that holsters were extremely difficult to find for the 5" model. Safariland sent me the wrong holster THREE times. I finally said fuck it, sold it, and went back to the 1911 platform.

If you get one, get the 4" model. Holsters will be a Helluva lot easier to come by. IMO, there is no better value out there than the Springer XD's. Mine was a sweet shooting sumbitch. And I could have two of them (almost three) for what I have invested in my 1911.

HornedToad...nice triple ya got there. My normal carry guns are the USP40 compact or a Kimber Ultra CDP II. Love em both. Next time I come to Huachuca, I'll bring some of my HK collection out and we can pop some caps!
