Compound Bow

Post by rangerjd »

I've got an old 1985 Bear Compound Bow that I am thinking of replacing. I haven't bow hunted in years and I want to start again. I'm looking for a new or slightly used bow. I am amazed at the new bows, it's like Star Wars out there. Any suggestions on a brand of bow that won't cause me to go bankrupt, but will work well out to 60 yards on deer and possibly elk. I would like to keep it to $500 dollars or LESS for the complete set up. I used to have a 28 1/2" draw length and I would like to have about a 65-70lb draw weight. Any suggestion would help, I've been looking for about a month now.

I got a little lucky I suppose when I bought mine but I bought a slightly used Mathews bow (I believe it is a featherlite) for about $125 and had it all set up for me with new stuff and restrung. Wind up costing me a bit over $500 with 6 carbon fiber arrows. But I love that bow and wouldn't trade it for the world. If you go to some of the hunting shows sometimes they have decent used bows pretty cheap especially if you don't mind doing the extra work to put everything on yourself.
