Changing Glock barrels

Post by fatboy »

Easy question I hope- can you change glock barrels between the generations? For example, I have a gen 3 G23 that I want to put a gen 4 G22 barrel into. Is it possible or should I look at getting a gen 3 G22 barrel?
For those that don't know, the G22 and G23 are the same caliber, just a full size vs. a compact.

Give me five minutes and ill stop at the office and ask a Glock Armorer.

Quicker than expected, he was easy to find. The answer is yes. The only differences from Gen 3 to 4 are the changes to the recoil spring, back strap, and extractor. The barrels are interchangeable.

Excellent.
That makes planning a little bit easier for future mods to the pistol collection. Now does anyone have a trijicon dual illum rmr
and an extra surefire x300 or streamlight trl-1 laying around they want to get rid of really cheaply? :D

I just did some checking with those barrels, and everything looks the same, except the locking block where the recoil assembly attaches to the barrel on the gen 4. That block is closer to the muzzle end instead of the chamber end like the gen 3 barrel. So it looks like I'll be looking for an extended length glock 23 barrel sometime down the road.
