Is it comfortable to fire with guards like that on Ranger Ndog275?

Actually what you are looking at is called a Rail Adapter System (RAS). A RAS is meant to serve as a point of attachment to the weapon and not as a contact point with the body. This system is best exploited by adding a vertical foregrip (Ghetto grip). Additionally you can add tactical lights, Laser, Bipod and all sort of accessories.

So without having touched that specific handguard I can tell you it is not comfortable

From having touched that type extensively I concur. You can add rail covers that will mitigate the discomfort. The type that looks like a ladder can be trimmed so you can still attach your various tools of the trade and isn't too bulky or heavy.

Rail covers are my next purchase. This stuff adds up when Uncle Sugar isn't issuing the tacticool accessories, maybe something in Ranger green or coyote tan. Something that says I'm equally at home conducting ambushes in the mojanga or wacking tangos in an urban eviroment

(Leonard Scott and Dick Marchinko if you're reading this, I all ready copy righted that phrase, but I'll gladly sell you the rights.)

I've had this rifle for about five years now and I've been wanting to put rails on it but I'm cheap

. Luckily, fireguy 275 squared me away with some at good price :D

I have something similar on a pea-shooter I built, but a little longer. They aren't "uncomfortable" IMHO, but they do heat up quickly. There are also more robust rail covers available from places like Midway or Cheaper Than Dirt.

Looks good NDog. I'm surprised the officers out in the back parking lot behind the station didn't say anything as we were waving your rifle around trying to get your old handguards off.

I still need a flat top and rail system for mine. Guess it's time for a second job.

Here is the rifle they came off, and the new rail system I put in its place.

Bushmaster M4gery, Magpul CTR stock and MIAD grip, Troy 12" Free floating rail system (cut out to fit over carbine length front sight base), Larue BUIS and QD Eotech mount, Eotech 512, Pentagon X3 135 lumen light, vertical grip (took it off for now), Vtac sling

I've seen mansions with less furniture in them then you got on the AR

None needed. You cut the d e l t a ring off with a hacksaw, and then pull 2 retaining springs (slip ring and can't recall the exact part name of the other) off with pliers. Then slide the top rail on and bolt it in place. The bottom half slides and locks in as well (a rubber mallet helps).
Took about 20 minutes.

The Troy rail is top notch. Very solid and well balanced at a decent price. I like Larue too but wanted a longer rail that would fit over my stock front sight base.
