In Memoriam: Gene Tortorella 1/75

Post by kaltrop »

SGT Gene Tortorella
2nd Squad, 3rd Plt, Aco 1/75

Airborne Ranger Gene Tortorella died by his own hand, 4 July 2013
He was the most serious-minded and squared away man I had ever met.
During his time in Battalion he attended HALO school and Sniper school.
He was earned the EIB while in Battalion. He was the first in the EIB road
march and he ran the two mile in the mid-elevens.
He graduated ranger school class 9-87. He is front row, second from the
right, sitting like the Musashi-esque mother fucker that he was.
Gene went on to save many lives as an emergency room doctor and as an
anesthesiologist. While other doctors bought mansions by the lake, he had a
compound in the woods complete with 2 wells and 2 years worth of food.
He was a tough little fucker and he was my good friend. He will be missed.
RLTW, Gene

WTFO. This is happening far too often these days.

Sorry for your loss Ranger. That's fucked up.

Dudes, reach the fuck out to someone if you're running low on intestinal fortitude and ask for a hand, there's no shame in that whatsoever.

Or they just get more drugs thrown at them by a government agency that doesn't give a fuck.

I agree with your statement to a point. However; even when they ask for help the Army/VA provides so little real support. For some of US (using this word collectively) the Army is all WE (collectively) have for support.

I understand pain and I understand how bad it sucks to be the one who survives. I understand how badly VA sucks and I understand how little they help. In the end only one person controls the decision to live on or quit.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR SUICIDE. GET HELP!
