AR 670-1 would be the manual that covers this question. Last time I read it, it said only personnel assigned to RTB, 75th Ranger Regiment or personnel assigned to USASOC that were in the 75th Ranger Regiment before their USASOC assignment are allowed to wear the Tan beret.

X2. Whatever beret you wore when you served would be what seems appropriate to me. I graduated RIP and served in Regiment, all while wearing a Black Beret. Now I don't go around wearing it in public these days (mainly because my head grew or something), but if I did, I would wear black because that was what I wore while serving.
