Wis. man won't buy gas for 31 days, maybe longer

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) - Brian LaFave couldn't care less how high gasoline prices climb these days - he's parked his pickup truck and is refusing to buy gas for a month, possibly longer. "The goal is to not use one drop of gas for 31 days," LaFave said, calling it his personal stand against ...

Even savages don't send their own children to blow themselves up.

"Fanatics" is the only word that comes to my mind (and I'm still not sure that's the best word....).

Women of Iraq sign up to fight back

Something I thought was interesting.... YUSUFIYAH, Iraq — Entisar Yossif Yaqub’s closest brush with the terror that has paralyzed Iraq came a year ago. She and her husband were on the road when a car full of masked men forced them to pull over. The couple were forced to get into the car with the...

Top US commando sees more demand for elite forces in Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) - Even as the overall U.S. force in Iraq shrinks, the number of elite troops known as special operations forces is likely to grow, the military's top commando told The Associated Press on Monday. More of these specially trained, often secretive forces may be required in Iraq in order...

Army recruits who get in despite bad conduct promoted faster

A follow up to last week's discussion. As I think about it, I recall several good men I served with who joined under the "go to jail or Army plan". It seems like tougher initial entry training to weed out the true thugs would be the key. (But that ain't gonna happen...) -------------------...

Hmmm. I know manning the force is a "rock and hard place" scenario. But it never bodes well to drop the standards. Ran into a platoon sergeant at BWI who was in the Division at the same time as me (he got out for seven years, and re-enlisted recently). He was telling me they were getting k...
